The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a software application handled by the central government, state governments and the UGC/AICTE departments in India. It is a dedicated portal with several scholarship schemes available to students at different class levels.
The central government had launched the NSP portal under the NeGP (National e-Governance Plan), intending to provide easy access to scholarships and equal education opportunities to all students across the country.
What is NSP Portal?
The central government, state government and the UGC/ AICTE provide and fund several scholarships available on the NSP portal. After fulfilling the requirements, eligible students can register, apply, and track the Nation Scholarship Portal (NSP) status.
Therefore, the NSP portal helps them to register and apply for their desired scholarships effortlessly.

The National Scholarship Portal follows a SMART system called Simplified, Mission-Oriented, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent. Listed below are the advantages of the NSP portal:

NSP Scholarship Schemes
The government has classified the NSP portal scholarships into three different schemes. The students from the elementary to postdoctoral level can apply to the scholarships on the NSP portal.
- Central Scheme: Different ministries and departments under the central government sponsor the scholarships under the 'central scheme' section.
- State Schemes: The central and the state governments sponsor the scholarships under the 'state scheme' section.
- UGC/AICTE Schemes: The university grants commission and all India council for technical education offer the schemes under the 'UGC/AICTE' section.

UGC/ AICTE NSP Schemes
UGC and AICTE offer scholarships for students from the northeastern region, female students, reserved categories, etc. The candidates pursuing diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses can apply to these scholarships on the NSP portal. Given below is a list of the scholarships available under UGC and AICTE:

University Grants Commission (UGC)
Under the Ministry of Education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognises the universities in India. They also offer scholarships for students at the college level. The list of UGC schemes are:
- ISHAN UDAY - a scholarship scheme for the northeastern region
- PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl child
- PG scholarship for university rank holders (Ist and IInd rank holders)
- PG scholarship scheme for SC/ST students for pursuing professional courses
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
The AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), the Indian technical education board under the Ministry of Education, controls India's technical and management education. The list of AICTE scholarships are as follows:

How to Apply on NSP Portal 2.0?
Interested candidates can choose and apply for their scholarships through the NSP portal 2.0. They should duly fill in the application form, upload the required documents and cross-verify the details before making the final submission. The authorities will reject the application forms in case of any errors. In addition, the students cannot edit the application form after making the final submission. Scroll down to know the application process for the scholarships on the NSP portal 2.0.
Step 1: Check for the Institute
The applicants should check if their institutions are available on the NSP 2.0 portal before commencing the application process.
Step 2: Register on the NSP Portal 2.0
After finding the institute, the candidates applying for the first time should register themselves on the NSP portal 2.0. They will receive an application ID and password on their registered mobile number after a successful registration.

Step 3: Log in to NSP Portal 2.0
The fresh and renewal applicants can log into the NSP portal by selecting the dropdown menu available on the homepage. The first-time applicants should mandatorily change the password after logging in with the credentials sent to them.
- The candidates should click on the 'login' button available on the homepage after obtaining the login credentials and choose from the dropdown menu accordingly.
- Next, they should log in with the NSP login credentials (application ID and password).
Note: The first-time applicants should change the password using the OTP sent to their registered mobile number. The system will redirect the applicants to the dashboard after they change the password.
Step 4: Apply for NSP Scholarships
The candidates can apply for the NSP scholarships after logging into the portal with their application ID and password. They should fill in the application form with the correct details. Given below are steps to apply for the NSP scholarships:
- The system will redirect the applicants to the dashboard after logging into the NSP portal.
- Next, the candidates should click on the 'application form' button available on the left side of the dashboard page.
- The application form is divided into three parts. They are registration, academic and primary details. The candidates should carefully fill each section with the correct information.
- After duly filling in the details, the candidates should click on the save & continue button.
- Next, the system will display the schemes based on their eligibility criteria.
- After selecting the NSP scholarship scheme, the candidates should upload scanned copies of the required documents.
Note: The applicants need not upload the documents if the NSP scholarship amount is less than INR 50,000. However, the authorities recommend the students upload the documents for easier verification.
- After uploading all the documents and filling in the application form, the candidates should click on the 'save as draft' button. At this stage, they can preview the application form and make changes if required.
- After the candidates have thoroughly checked the application form, they should click on the final submit button. However, they should note that they cannot make further changes after clicking on the final submit button.
Note: The candidates should safely preserve the NSP login details. However, if they forget the application ID or password, they can retrieve it from the official portal.

Documents Required for NSP
The candidates should submit the required documents in the prescribed format. They should provide accurate and authenticated records, and the information presented on the application form should be as shown in the papers. The necessary documents to upload on the NSP portal 2.0 are as follows:
- Aadhaar ID
- Caste certificate
- Income certificate
- Domicile certificate
- Single girl child certificate
- Disability certificate (if required)
- Bank details (copy of bank passbook)
How to Track Application Status on NSP 2.0?
The students can track the NSP scholarship application status after submitting the scholarship forms. They should provide their login details to be able to track the status of their NSP applications. The steps to track the NSP application status are as follows:
- Step 1: The candidates should visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- Step 2: They should click on 'login'.
- Step 3: Next, the candidates should select the academic year from the dropdown menu.
- Step 4: After selecting the year, they should log in with their application ID and password.
- Step 5: The applicants should click on 'check your status' available on the dashboard.
- Step 6: The candidates can view the status of their application.
How to Track NSP Payment Status?
The students can use the pointers mentioned below to track the NSP payment status on the PFMS portal.
- The government will credit the NSP scholarship amount directly to the beneficiary’s bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
- The applicants can track the NSP payment status on a different portal called the PFMS portal.
- They can obtain the NSP payment status by providing their application ID and bank details.
