Alagappa College of Technology, situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a distinguished institution providing higher education in Engineering, Technology, and allied Sciences. It was established in 1944 under the University of Madras and became part of Anna University in 1978. Anna University, founded on September 4, 1978, serves as a unitary university offering education and research opportunities in areas relevant to societal and industrial needs. Anna University was formed by integrating four prestigious technical institutions in Chennai: College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) – Established in 1794 Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) – Established in 1949 Alagappa College of Technology (ACT) – Established in 1944 School of Architecture and Planning (SAP) – Established in 1957 History of Alagappa College of Technology Founded in 1944, the Alagappa College of Technology came into existence through the philanthropy of Vallal Dr. Alagappa Chettiar, who donated ₹500,000 to Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, then Vice Chancellor of Madras University. Dr. Chettiar envisioned a college specializing in emerging technology disciplines. In recognition of his generosity, the University of Madras named the institution "Alagappa College of Technology" and introduced courses in Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, and Leather Technology. To honor his contributions, the university awarded him an honorary LL.D. degree during a special convocation.
