Facilities :-

Library

The library has more than 60,000 books and back volume Journals. It is fully automated and Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available to students and staff. The Central library will remain open from 10 AM to 5 PM on all working days. For part time students the function on Wednesdays is up to 6 PM. Circulation Status: Approximately 40 to 50 thousand books are being borrowed by the readers annually. More or less similar number of books is referred or consulted by the readers in the Central Library. Reference Section: A. A collection of 10,000 books on technology and 20,00 back volumes of journals are available in the library for reference. College Library is subscribing national and International Journals in various branches of engineering. In addition to this college library receives 45periodical publications as free of cost. Books and Journals will not be permitted to take out from the reference section. Reprographic facility at concessional rate is available to readers.

Identity Card is compulsory for using the Library facilities. Students and Staff are required to enter their names and reference details in the register kept in the reference section for that purpose. B. Dr. R.P.R. Nair, Educational Trust Reference Library-contributed by old studentsDr. R.P. Rajagopalan Nair, who retired as post graduate professor in Civil Engineering Department, in 1988. C. Electronic Journals: Government Engineering College, Thrissur began to subscribe electronic journals to Faculty, Staff and Students in collaboration with the INDEST consortia. We will get electronic journals, supplied through INDEST and from other publishers including Science Direct. Sufficient number of nodes will be provided in the Central Library after discussions with the Officers, who are assigned the project. The following e-journals under AICTE-INDEST schemes are now available for use of the college staff and students: 1. IEL – 1 user 2. ASME 3. SD Chemical & Biotech 4. DEL 5. SD-CE 6. SD(EE,EC,CS,IT) 7. Internet Facility Students and Staff can browse the Internet from the library free for their educational and research purposes.

EDUSAT Facility

The college is equipped with Edusat Facility under MOU signed with Indian Space Research Organization. Under this scheme two channels of Edusat programmes are received. Two-way interactive sessions are possible using which live classes can be conducted. One channel is meant for beaming VICTERS programmes and the other under the Indo-US forum for receiving classes conducted in engineering stream by expert faculty, beamed from the Amritha University Campus in Coimbatore. Commencing from July 2006, classes of eminent US professors are being received by this centre. This facility is useful for the student community as well as for the teachers.

Hostel

The college has four Hostel Blocks for Men and two Hostel Blocks for women students with capacity 690 and 160 respectively. These hostels have separate establishments and are headed by the warden assisted by Resident Tutors. They are the admitting authority. Prof. T.M. Sudersanan is the warden.

On admission, each student is required to pay Rs. 4430/- towards admission fee and caution deposit. The caution deposit Rs. 4000/- will be returned only at the time of leaving the hostel after adjusting liabilities, if any. Students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other eligible communities are required to pay Rs. 1080/ – towards admission fee and caution deposit. (Caution Deposit Rs. 1000/-)

Messes are run on dividing system and there is provision for vegetarian and non- vegetarian messes. The hostel inmates are expected to follow the hostel rules strictly and as directed by warden and resident tutors.

College Bus

There are 4 Buses including one donated by the College PTA and a Jeep are on service to reduce the transport problems of students and staff of this institution. These service are very much helpful to the students and staff for their journey to and from the college and various industrial visits in connection with the curriculum. The students are issued identity cum Bus Pass during the admission process.

Staff Club

A staff club is functioning to facilitate improvement of the cultural and academic activities among the teaching staff of the college. It serves as the plat form for the interaction between the different departments as well as with the former professors of the college and their family. Staff club is involved in co-coordinating activities of common interest among the teaching staff. It conducts Onam fest for the staff with “Latha memorial rolling trophy : Athapookalam competition among the departments. Christmas celebrations are also there with crib making and party. Apart from the celebrations it conducts innovative talks and short term training programmers for the staff. Every year there will be a sent off programme for the retiring faculty members.

National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme has emerged as a powerful and dynamic youth movement in this country. NSS is acting as a catalyst to build up the right type of leadership in an Institution. This college has implemented the National Service Scheme from 1970. The main aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities to the teachers and students to gain valuable practical experience through community service. At present two units are functioning in the college and the strength is 200. The students who get 240 hours experience including one special company programme will be eligible for NSS certificate and also will be eligible for obtaining grace marks.

The staff member in charge of the units are Sri. Mubarak A.K. and Manoj P.J. Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.The student coordinators of these units are Jayesh S. and Emil George.

Co-operative Society

Co-operative society “Engineering college co-operative society Ltd. No R-51 Thrissur is functioning near to the western side of the college main building. The society supplies text books, practical manuals, note books, laboratory records, drawing instruments, surveying instruments and other stationary articles needed for the students, staff and other Government institutions, with discount rates. A savings bank is also being run by the society for the benefit of staff and students. The staff and students of the college are members of the society. The functioning of the society is governed by a Director Board which consists of 4 staff members and 4 student members. The principal of the college is the president of the society.

Canteen

A full-fledged canteen is functioning within the campus for convenience of the staff and students (Both Regular and Part Time).

Post Office & Bank

A post office is functioning within the campus with its working hours between 9.00 am and 5.00pm.The Branch of State Bank of Travancore, Cheroor is functioning in the campus. ATM Facility is also available.

Dispensary

A dispensary functions near the Hostel and it’s services are available to the students , staff and family.
