Facilities :-

Library

The library has more than 60,000 books and back volume Journals. It is fully automated and Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available to students and staff. The Central library will remain open from 10 AM to 5 PM on all working days. For part time students the function on Wednesdays is up to 6 PM. Circulation Status: Approximately 40 to 50 thousand books are being borrowed by the readers annually. More or less similar number of books is referred or consulted by the readers in the Central Library. Reference Section: A. A collection of 10,000 books on technology and 20,00 back volumes of journals are available in the library for reference. College Library is subscribing national and International Journals in various branches of engineering. In addition to this college library receives 45periodical publications as free of cost. Books and Journals will not be permitted to take out from the reference section. Reprographic facility at concessional rate is available to readers.

Identity Card is compulsory for using the Library facilities. Students and Staff are required to enter their names and reference details in the register kept in the reference section for that purpose. B. Dr. R.P.R. Nair, Educational Trust Reference Library-contributed by old studentsDr. R.P. Rajagopalan Nair, who retired as post graduate professor in Civil Engineering Department, in 1988. C. Electronic Journals: Government Engineering College, Thrissur began to subscribe electronic journals to Faculty, Staff and Students in collaboration with the INDEST consortia. We will get electronic journals, supplied through INDEST and from other publishers including Science Direct. Sufficient number of nodes will be provided in the Central Library after discussions with the Officers, who are assigned the project. The following e-journals under AICTE-INDEST schemes are now available for use of the college staff and students: 1. IEL – 1 user 2. ASME 3. SD Chemical & Biotech 4. DEL 5. SD-CE 6. SD(EE,EC,CS,IT) 7. Internet Facility Students and Staff can browse the Internet from the library free for their educational and research purposes.

EDUSAT Facility

The college is equipped with Edusat Facility under MOU signed with Indian Space Research Organization. Under this scheme two channels of Edusat programmes are received. Two-way interactive sessions are possible using which live classes can be conducted. One channel is meant for beaming VICTERS programmes and the other under the Indo-US forum for receiving classes conducted in engineering stream by expert faculty, beamed from the Amritha University Campus in Coimbatore. Commencing from July 2006, classes of eminent US professors are being received by this centre. This facility is useful for the student community as well as for the teachers.

Hostel

The college has four Hostel Blocks for Men and two Hostel Blocks for women students with capacity 690 and 160 respectively. These hostels have separate establishments and are headed by the warden assisted by Resident Tutors. They are the admitting authority. Prof. T.M. Sudersanan is the warden.

On admission, each student is required to pay Rs. 4430/- towards admission fee and caution deposit. The caution deposit Rs. 4000/- will be returned only at the time of leaving the hostel after adjusting liabilities, if any. Students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other eligible communities are required to pay Rs. 1080/ – towards admission fee and caution deposit. (Caution Deposit Rs. 1000/-)

Messes are run on dividing system and there is provision for vegetarian and non- vegetarian messes. The hostel inmates are expected to follow the hostel rules strictly and as directed by warden and resident tutors.

College Bus

There are 4 Buses including one donated by the College PTA and a Jeep are on service to reduce the transport problems of students and staff of this institution. These service are very much helpful to the students and staff for their journey to and from the college and various industrial visits in connection with the curriculum. The students are issued identity cum Bus Pass during the admission process.

Staff Club

A staff club is functioning to facilitate improvement of the cultural and academic activities among the teaching staff of the college. It serves as the plat form for the interaction between the different departments as well as with the former professors of the college and their family. Staff club is involved in co-coordinating activities of common interest among the teaching staff. It conducts Onam fest for the staff with “Latha memorial rolling trophy : Athapookalam competition among the departments. Christmas celebrations are also there with crib making and party. Apart from the celebrations it conducts innovative talks and short term training programmers for the staff. Every year there will be a sent off programme for the retiring faculty members.

National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme has emerged as a powerful and dynamic youth movement in this country. NSS is acting as a catalyst to build up the right type of leadership in an Institution. This college has implemented the National Service Scheme from 1970. The main aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities to the teachers and students to gain valuable practical experience through community service. At present two units are functioning in the college and the strength is 200. The students who get 240 hours experience including one special company programme will be eligible for NSS certificate and also will be eligible for obtaining grace marks.

The staff member in charge of the units are Sri. Mubarak A.K. and Manoj P.J. Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.The student coordinators of these units are Jayesh S. and Emil George.

Co-operative Society

Co-operative society “Engineering college co-operative society Ltd. No R-51 Thrissur is functioning near to the western side of the college main building. The society supplies text books, practical manuals, note books, laboratory records, drawing instruments, surveying instruments and other stationary articles needed for the students, staff and other Government institutions, with discount rates. A savings bank is also being run by the society for the benefit of staff and students. The staff and students of the college are members of the society. The functioning of the society is governed by a Director Board which consists of 4 staff members and 4 student members. The principal of the college is the president of the society.

Canteen

A full-fledged canteen is functioning within the campus for convenience of the staff and students (Both Regular and Part Time).

Post Office & Bank

A post office is functioning within the campus with its working hours between 9.00 am and 5.00pm.The Branch of State Bank of Travancore, Cheroor is functioning in the campus. ATM Facility is also available.

Dispensary

A dispensary functions near the Hostel and it’s services are available to the students , staff and family.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : College hostels for boys and girls are available with lot of rooms and many other private hostels are working around the college. Quality hostels with best foods. PG are available near the college. Many quality facilities like WiFi 's also available.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Kerala Entrance Examination KEAM is the entrance examination to attend. Less than 1500 rank will surely get a seat in Computer Science at Government Engineering College Thrissur.

Placements & Internships : Almost all the best companies, including international companies, visit our college. Almost 4 LPA is an average salary for mostly C.S students. This year 53 LPA is the highest for C.S students.

Fees & Scholarships : Course fee is only the university fees for exams like Rs.1500 in each exam and Rs.5000 in years. Almost all kinds of scholarships are available for the students like e-grantz and MCM. Many are enjoying these benefits.

Academics & Faculty : Class timings are normal like 9-4 pm. Teaching is good . College experience is the one of the best in Kerala.

Clubs & Associations : Many student communities and clubs are actively working, like IEEE, gdsc, tinkerhub, IEDC etc and dancing and singing clubs are also working. Dhyuthi is the main cultural event and many events tech and sports too are actively happening. College life is the best among Kerala.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : College is providing only one hostel for ladies and one for men. And students coming from long distance are more preferred. And not available for students coming from the same district. College hostel fee is INR 2250 per month. 2000 is mess fee and 250 is room rent. Outside the college, there are many PGs and other hostels are available. But the fee is INR 4,000 per month and more. And facilities available is less. And the food is also not good. College hostel provides good food. And they charge a mess fee of INR2,000 per month from the hostel inmates. And college provides college canteen for other students. In college canteen, a meal charges INR 50. Classrooms are well advanced, good facility technical labs are available, the library has enormous books. Other than the college library department library is also there. College wifi is available. Other infrastructures are available at its best level a government institute can provide.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Students those who have passed +2 in science subjects are eligible to write the Kerala Engineering And Medical (KEAM) entrance exam. And on the basis of the KEAM rank students are allotted in different colleges . Here I had 95 percentage mark in my +2 science subjects.And my KEAM rank is 2478. So I got allotment for BTech Chemical Engineering at Government engineering college, Thrissur as it was my first option. For my course students having KEAM rank of above 10,000 are allotted.

Placements & Internships : I'm just a first-year student. I will be just having my second-semester exam by next month. So I have not yet attempted any internships. And I'm not receiving any stipends by the time. BPCL, RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LTD, FACT, etc.like companies are hiring from our college. And chemical engineers find employment in research and development, design and construction, administration and management, manufacturing operation, waste treatment and disposal, technical services and sales related to process industries. Average salary package of INR 9,60,000 per year. The highest salary package of INR 12,00,000 per year. And every year 60% of the batch gets placed. We have a great alumni network. K V Narayan is one among them.

Fees & Scholarships : Government Engineering College, Thrissur Fee Structure. Fees of Government Engineering College is INR 14,000 per year. The only scholarship option is E-grant scholarship provided by the government of Kerala for students having a family income less than INR 1,00,000 per year. An average of 500 students from our college is receiving this scholarship. Loans are not needed.

Academics & Faculty : There will be 6 hours class starting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There 2 series tests, 2 assignments/projects for all the 6 subjects in each semester. And this should be completed before the semester exam. The college provides good teaching with advanced technical facilities. And faculty members are experienced and educated as well. The college provides a good opportunity for the overall development of a student. There are good facilities for extracurricular activities like sports and the arts.

Clubs & Associations : There are many clubs in college. Like a literary club, music club, art club, aerospace club, innovation entrepreneur and development club, etc. And there is also a well working National Students Service. And there is an Oasis club for helping society. The college host many cultural and sports programs. And there is tech fest as well namely DYUTHI. In general college life is good.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : Men and ladies hostel facilities are available here. The expense of food and rent is below 3000 per month. Private hostels and paying guest facilities are available outside the college(costs about 5000-6000). College canteen facilities are available and students can afford food items at low cost from here. The classrooms are with full facilities with fans,lights, projector facilities, speakers, and WiFi facilities. Labs are well equipped and safety measures are good. The library has a good collection of books relating our studies.Art and literature books are also available. E-library services. Air conditioned seminar halls and meeting rooms. Fees & Scholarships : Rs. 11500/- is the course fee per year at Government Engineering College, Thrissur Scholarships: E-grance, post metric scholarship Many other scholarships are available.

Academics & Faculty : Class timing:9am-4pm 2 internal exams are done for one semester. Minimum of 2 assignment on each subject. Design project on 2nd year and main project on 4 th year. Comprehensive Viva and exam on 6TH semester. Course viva is done at the end of the course(8TH SEM) Teaching quality and method of teaching is good here. My overall experience in this college is good.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : There are about 4 hostel blocks for men and women each.The fees are about INR 250  the or room per month and about INR 1800 for food. Food in college canteen is very cheap starting at INR 20 the or meal and INR 50 for chicken biryani!! Classrooms are a bit old but are in good condition.There are sufficient amount of Labs for each department.There is a common library for the college which has a huge collection of books.The campus has an unlimited WiFi connection f?during class hours.But the WiFi can only be accessed using laptop which has to be registered first.

Placements & Internships : During my 1st year in college I had done an internship at Spares Technology in Thrissur itself. Key companies that hire from our college includes Oracle, TCS ,Wipro ,Bosch etc. Average salary per year is about INR 4-5 Lacks per annum. The highest placed batch are Computer Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering(ECE) respectively. Alumni work on the campus is really active.The Alumni are responsible for the traffic of placement in the campus! Annual Alumni meets also takes place every year. Government Engineering College Thrissur has given birth to great people such as missile women of India-Tessy Thomas.

Fees & Scholarships : The course fee per year is INR 8500 per year. Different scholarships are available for the students such as grants by the Kerala Government.About 70 percent of the students are obtaining this scholarship. As the Fees is as low as INR 8500 loans are not needed for education.The scholarship itself could be used for the fees!

Academics & Faculty : Class starts at 9:00 AM in the morning and end at 4:00 PM in the evening, with 12:00-1:00 PM allocated for lunch. There are two internal exams per semester and one final university examination.Two assignments are also to be submitted for each subject each semester. Quality of teaching is excellent as the faculties are well-trained professors. The campus is a raging free campus and juniors and seniors have a great relationship.The overall experience is just awesome!
