Gauhati University Institute of Distance and Open Learning (GUIDOL) was established in 1998. It was formerly known as Post Graduate Correspondance School (PGCS). The main objective then was to give quality higher education to those who couldn’t pursue the conventional mode of higher education. GUIDOL started off with just 514 students in 1998, now has 50,000 students across its 90+ centers. GUIDOL offers 4 undergraduate programs, 8 postgraduate diploma courses, and 16 postgraduate courses.
GUIDOL has an online learning platform called eEkalavya launched in 2015. The platform could be accessed through PCs, tablets and mobile devices using a username and password provided for every registered student. The portal is updated on a weekly basis with study materials in audio/video tutorials and e-files. Using virtual discussion forums students could interact with faculty members. This platform is used for the M.Sc IT classes.
