Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), established in 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangha, is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. The foundation stone was laid on November 30, 1980, by Shri R. Gundu Rao, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, at the Sangha premises, with land granted in Banashankari for college and hostel construction. Classes officially began on March 16, 1981, which is celebrated annually as KIMS Day. The institute marked its Silver Jubilee in 2006, commemorated with the construction of a grand college building at the Banashankari campus.
The Pre-Clinical and Para-Clinical Departments are located in Banashankari 2nd Stage, while the Clinical Departments and KIMS Hospital are 4 km away on Krishna Rajendra Road, Visveswarapuram.
