KJ Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology was founded by the Somaiya Trust in 2001 at the Ayurvihar Campus in Sion, Mumbai. The college is approved by AICTE and NAAC. It is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai and accredited by Tata Consultancy Services. The Ayurvihar Campus of Somaiya Vidyavihar contains the KJ Somaiya Hospital, Medical College, and College of Physiotherapy. The Somaiya Trust, itself, was founded in 1951 by Shri Karamshibhai Jethabhai Somaiya, with the aim that students and teachers should work in an integral ambiance for the betterment and upliftment of our society.

Admission to the various undergraduate courses is granted on the basis of merit in the last qualifying examination and counseling conducted by the Maharashtra State CAP. All applicants are required to have passed their 12th standard examination in the science stream with at least 50% aggregate marks, from a recognized board and institute. Applicants under reservation are allowed a relaxation of 5%. All applicants are required to give either MHTCET or JEE.
