Fees & Scholarships :
Regarding the course fees, the total course fee is Rs. 80,000 at Mount Carmel College, [MCC] Bangalore. You have the option of paying the fee in instalments. You can pay the amount in two semesters. I paid in 2 instalments of 40,000 each. Since B.com (II) is a bit expensive course, the fee is a bit higher. if you are opting for a regular or an honours course, the fee will be around 20000-30000 for the course.
The teachers there want you to take admissions into an expensive course if you're a bit late for admissions. So, try to secure admissions in the initial days. Talking about scholarships, there are scholarships which you can get in this college. My friend used to get 5000 per semester. You can also avail of other scholarships if you're a topper or have secured excellent marks in your 12th standard. Your chances of getting a scholarship from the government are higher if you're from Karnataka and a meritorious student.
Loans are easily available once you've secured admissions. However, I think the course fee is reasonable and one doesn't need a loan. There is a UCO bank on campus that will make this process hassle-free.
Entrance Exams & Admissions :
You have two options to secure admission to MCC -
Through CET (less fees)
Directly from college (higher fees),
I did not take any entrance exams. I secured admission based on my 12th standard marks. One needs to have a minimum of 70% to secure admission here. At times, you need to meet the principal if the number of seats isn't enough and you have low marks (70%-80%).
Things you need to keep in mind-
Get the application forms ASAP as this will avoid last-minute hassle.
B.Com regular seats get filled very quickly, make sure you report to the college as soon as your results are out.
Bring all your documents at once.
Meet the principal if you're finding it a bit difficult to get the admissions. However, it does not guarantee admission.
I secured 93% and couldn't get admitted for B.Com regular course as CBSE results were declared late. I took B.Com Industry Integrated course. The minimum cut-off for our course was 75%.
Placements & Internships :
I didn't get the placement option from my college. However, my friends who took that option secured good jobs in top-rated companies like EY, Cognizant, Goldman Sachs and others. You'll get a decent package considering you're a fresher. Every year, you'll get two chances to fill out the form to be a part of the placement office. Once you're selected, your membership will be discontinued even if you are not satisfied or want to try out for another company.
Fees to enroll in placement office - Rs. 4000
Avg salary - 25,000 pm
Many companies opt for aptitude tests that will be conducted in college. Training for aptitude is not provided in college. Other than that, the response and support from the placement team is great. The placement officer is helpful and one gets an opportunity to be a volunteer in the placement office.
There is an alumni club as well. It is optional to be a part of the alumni club. I have not seen any alumni work in college as such.
Academics & Faculty :
The daily routine is quite flexible here. The day starts at 8.30 with a morning prayer in class. Classes will be conducted from 8.30 onwards. Each period is of 50 minutes. There are 2 breaks - short and a lunch break. In total there are 7-8 classes. College ends at 3.30 PM.
Each classroom is equipped with a projector and smartboard. teachers utilize these technologies effectively. We also go to the auditorium at times for our classes which is fun. Teachers here are a mix of professional and casual. They have a perfect balance. They're well qualified with a wide variety of knowledge. Since it is a girls college, most of the faculty here are women, however, not restricted to a particular gender. every classroom and corridors have CCTV cameras which adds in to the security of the college.
Overall experience is great. Students learn a lot of new subjects including foreign languages like French, German and Spanish.
College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities :
The campus is quite big. There is one hostel which is inside the campus attached to the canteen. The college is located in a posh area, right next to the Shangri-la hotel. The college has a well-equipped library with an excellent digital kiosk for locating library books. The library is quite big and is open after college hours as well for late study.
One can also find a computer lab with many computers to help students in their research projects. There are 2 canteens near the entrance gate and one is under construction (while I was in college - maybe it's opened now). You'll find good food there. There is also a Loafers lane just in front of the college with no street food options. You'll also find many PGs in the same lane. The cost of those PGs depends and starts at 4000 pm.
The college also has a wi-fi facility. There are many auditoriums. there is a dress code but not very strict. Overall homely and excellent infrastructure!
Clubs & Associations :
There are a number of clubs and associations you can be a part of. MCC's fashion team is very famous and they conduct auditions yearly. If you have a knack for modelling, give it a shot. Then there are others like Indian music Association, Western Music and Dance Association, Security committee, NSS, NCC, etc. Name an activity and you've got an association for that. You'll find out about these clubs on orientation day when they conduct auditions for these clubs.
The most happening fest of this college is the National level cultural fest called Cul-ah, where many college students come from across the nation, a spectacular display of talents and a mind-boggling performance from our fashion team. The whole college gives a party sort of vibe. Many celebrities also come to our college - like Sana Khan, Sharman Joshi, Rahul Gandhi, etc.
Overall, college life is very relaxed and one can have a lifetime of experience here.
