The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, was inaugurated on 24 August 1964 by Dr. Zakhir Hussain, Vice President of India. In 1969, Smt. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) campus, which is spread over 1,320 acres and is known as a biodiversity hotspot in Bangalore. UAS Bangalore is also one of the best agricultural universities in South India and the third-best state university in India.
