Pachaiyappa’s College was established in Chennai in 1842. It aims to impart quality education to the backward sections of the society. It was started as a primary school in 1842 under the name of Pachaiyappas Central Institution. It was set up to provide free education to the society. In 1880, under the demand of the residents, the school was turned into an intermediate college. It is affiliated to the University of Madras. In 1889, it got separated from the high school and became an independent institution.

Pachaiyappa’s College is one of the oldest colleges in Madras. It has various departments under which the courses are provided. CCTV cameras are placed at various points on the campus. It offers courses like B.Sc, BCA, BBA,B.Com, M.Sc, MCA, M.Com, M.Phil, and Ph.D. in various areas. The Pachaiyappas College admission is based on merit.
