School of Environment and Architecture was founded in the year 2014 by late Ar. Arvind Adarkar including other faculty members namely Neera Adarkar, Ravindra Punde, and Prasad Shetty. SEA, Mumbai is set up by expert architects and educationists in the field of Architecture. The college is perceived with an excellent focus on giving students qualitative, academic as well as practical knowledge. Located at Borivali, SEA is a joint initiative by The Society of Environment and Architecture (TSEA) and Suvidya Prasarak Sangh (SPS), Contemplating on the design aspects of the environment and giving a detailed study on the same, SEA strives to aim the following from their newly initiated college for prospective students of Architecture.
Prospective candidates can apply for the UG program at SEA, Mumbai by registering with the Directorate of Technical Education/ State CET cell for a Centralized Admission Procedure (CAP). The Council of Architecture recognizes admission through DTE for students aspiring to a career in Architecture and hence qualifying students who have given NATA, JEE, or MH-CET ARCH. Candidates must clear NATA/ JEE as per COA norms and must clear MH-CET ARCH as per DTE norms. The admission to the college is done by CAP rounds for the students. Students get allotted to the desired colleges based on various factors like merit list rankings, location, category of student, and confirmation of seat. SEA has no management quota and all 40 seats are surrendered to the government hence students can only get admitted via CAP rounds.
Aspiring candidates can register for the MH-CET centralized admission process on the official website of the DTE, Maharashtra. Eligible candidates are then allotted seats to the colleges all over Maharashtra based on choices of colleges while filling the form, If a seat is not confirmed by the student or the seat was not allotted, then students are eligible for round 2. Round 2 will have a merit list again allocating students to colleges based on their merit ranks. All candidates must register online for admission and upload required documents online. No Offline submission of application form is available. Once the candidate confirms the application form at eSC, they cannot edit/ alter the data provided in the application form. After submitting the form online, it is verified by the eSC (E-Scrutiny Centre). If no error is found by the eSC then the application is confirmed and the candidate will receive a receipt cum acknowledgement in their login portal.
The application form for the Centralized Admission Process for the 5 years B.Arch course is available on www.mahacet.org under the B.Architecture tab. Candidates are required to apply online as per the scheduled dates. Candidates must register online by providing email ID, mobile number, and other required data. Candidates should note down the application number for future login. A notification of the registration including the application number will be sent to the registered email ID. Candidates can login to complete the application form later, provided they submit the application form on or before the due date. The application fee is non-refundable. Any applications which are registered after 29-12-2020 shall not be considered for CAP Seats. Such students are enlisted for Non-CAP seats. Similarly, applications confirmed by eSC after 30-12-2020 shall be treated as Non-CAP seats only. The entrance exam applicable for the admission of B.Arch degree is: National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), conducted by the NIASA (National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture) which is a part of COA. This aptitude test is a national level examination conducted for the admission to UG program related to Architecture. Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) Paper-II is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) for aspirants aiming to make a career in B.Planning and B.Architecture offered by a nationally reputed institute.
The intake for the School of Environment and Architecture is 40. All seats under the SEA institute are submitted to the government, meaning there is no management quota for admission at SEA, Mumbai. Seats are allotted as per the Maharashtra state common entrance test norms. The percentage of seat allocation for various types of candidates in the Home university will be as per Schedule I and for direct Second-year admission would be as per Schedule II. All the above-mentioned seats are allotted by the competent authority as per the norms and eligible candidateship. In any case of unconfirmed admission seats, then the seat can be allotted to another candidate as per inter-se merit. The tuition fee waiver scheme seat is only applicable for candidates from Maharashtra and if these seats are found vacant then the seat shall not be provided to any other category of prospect applicant. Reservation for Sons/ Daughters of Defence Service Personnel
Among the total seats for Maharashtra candidates provisioned under CAP 5% seats are reserved for the DEF category (1,2 & 3). Such provision is not valid for children of Civilian staff working/ worked in the Indian Defence Service. Eligible candidates falling under this category are:
Reservation for PwD Candidate
Allocation of 5% seats to Candidates with benchmark disability is provided. The eligible candidate needs to provide medical certification proving 40% benchmark disability of the candidate. Such seats are available for only those candidates domiciled to Maharashtra State. Candidates with disabilities shall not be given any additional facility in academic activities.
Reservation of EWS Candidate
Under the Government provisions dated 12-2-2019, 10% seats should be reserved for EWS and these seats should be calculated as additional seats, upon vacancy for such seats no inter-se or conversion of seats shall pertain. If the candidate fails to provide relevant documents to claim a seat in this category, such students shall be admitted via other categories under eligibility.
Reservation for Orphan Candidate
The CAP seats for orphan candidates shall reserve a total of 1% seat reservation category. These seats can be filled by Competent Authority viz CAP merits as per Government norms. Such policies of reservation are likely to change from time to time.
Reservation for Female Candidate
Female candidates under no other reservation category such as Defence, PwD, and orphan are permitted for a reservation of 30% by Government Resolution policy.
Only the eligible candidates are selected for admission to the 5-year B.arch course offered at the School of Environment and Architecture via the centralized admission procedure. Based on the afore-mentioned cutoff candidates securing marks not less than 201 in the merit list for open category and 2131 for OBC and marks above 3420 for SC are readily allotted seats at the School of Environment and Architecture, Mumbai. NATA is an abbreviated format for the National Aptitude Test for Architecture which is conducted by the NIASA. NATA tests the aptitude of the applicants in the study field of drawings and observation skills, other technical aptitudes such as aesthetic sensitivity and sense of proportion which also involves critical thinking and general awareness of the architecture field. The entrance exam comprises two papers, testing drawing skills and aesthetic sensitivity tests. The purpose of conducting NATA was to provide a single scheme examination for students all over the nation to facilitate prospective students with a single entrance exam applicable for admissions in architecture seats spread across the country.
Under the governance of directives ensuring public health concern due to Covid19 pandemic and maintaining the social distance axiom, the CoA decided to conduct both Parts of the exam online. To get a greater number of qualifying aspirants, NATA 2020 shall be conducted twice a year, thus giving more opportunity to students who missed out the first test for multiple reasons or for those students who wish to improve their NATA scores by reappearing. Both the exams shall be conducted online. Once the student is registered online for the NATA entrance exam they can login to their portal using their registered email id and password and fill in the required data for the exam.
There is no common counseling conducted by the authorities of CoA for the B.Arch admission process. The candidates must apply individually to the participating institutes and admissions will be given based on the vacancies after CAP rounds. These seats which are provided in the Non-CAP rounds will be considered in the management quota. All the seats for SEA, Mumbai have produced for CAP based admission. Hence, there is no management quota for admission to the School of Environment and Architecture. Even so, candidates are allowed for counseling with the college director after CAP round 2 in the provision of vacant seats.
