• The South Asian University (SAU) is set to increase the number of online degrees and courses it offers. New faculties for arts and management have been added to the SAU in an effort to diversify its academic offerings. These developments reflect the university's commitment to broadening higher education access in the region through a combination of flexibility and traditional academic excellence in online learning.

South Asian University, [SAU] is an international university founded by the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation [SAARC]. The Prime Minister of India came up with the idea of this University in 13th SAARC Summit which took place in Dhaka in 2005. The project office for the university was established by the government of India in 2008. The University started its operation in 2010. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission [UGC] and by other SAARC countries. The University offers state of the art hostel facilities to its students and offers junior fellowship.

South Asian University offers courses at postgraduate and doctoral level in a variety of disciplines like Computer Science, Economics, Biotechnology, International Relations, Mathematics, Law and Sociology. The University will ultimately have about 11 postgraduate faculties and 1 faculty for undergraduate studies. The then Minister of External Affairs - Pranab Mukherjee, laid the foundation stone for the campus of the university in South Delhi.

Campus Highlights:

• The campus of SAU is spread across a sprawling campus of 100 acres
• The campus is a clever blend of modern architecture and exquisite surroundings and packed with all the relevant facilities
• The campus consists of separate laboratories for each of the course equipped with the best of instruments

 Library:

• The library of the University - Prof. G.K Chadha Library was founded to fulfil the needs of the researchers, faculties, students, and staffs
• Spread in a massive area of 4500 sq ft, the library has different sections such as the Reference Library, Reading Hall, Audio-Visual Library, Cyber Centre, Institutional Repository and many more
• The cyber centre of the library has about 15 workstations to access the resources online
• The Reading Hall of the library has a seating capacity of about 33 people
• It has more than 14,500 books published by publishing giants like Cambridge University Press, Sage Publications, Oxford University Press, Taylor and Francis Group and many more
• It has stocks of reference books on subjects like Computer Science, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Law, Sociology, Economics, Religion, International Religion, and Literature
• E-books are also present at the library for a variety of subjects
• The University has subscribed to numerous journals and magazines
• The library has a subscription to five magazines - Outlook, Himal, Book Review, India Today, Economic and Political Weekly and six newspapers - Times of India, the Economic, The Asian Age, Indian Express, and The Hindu

• Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science [FMCS]: The faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science in SAU offers the best faculty and provides Masters and PhD in concerned programmes. It also offers research opportunities in areas of Operational Research, Probability, statistics, networking, databases, embedded systems and many more. The Departments under the faculty are mentioned below.

  • Department of Computer

• Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology [FLSB]: The faculty offers research opportunities with other faculties of Physical and Social Sciences along with their related disciplines. The students are taught the fundamental as well as the core courses. The faculty strength is about 11 faculty to around 60 students.

• Faculty of Economics [FE]: This faculty offers a Masters Program in Economics with specialization in Economic Development and a PhD in Economics.

• Faculty of Social Sciences [FSS]: The Faculty of Social Sciences was formed in 2011. The faculty awards Masters and PhD degree. The faculty has two departments under it.

  • Department of International Relations
  • Department of Sociology

• Faculty of Legal Studies: This faculty offers Masters and PhD in LLM and Legal Studies. The courses offered are the General Principles of International Law, Law of International Organisations, International Trade Law and many more.

• SAU offers three categories of scholarships.

SAARC - India Silver Jubilee Scholarship:

• The students who belong to the least developed countries of SAARC are awarded this scholarship

SAU President's Award:

• The students who top the entrance exams of their respective countries are awarded this scholarship
• The students who come under the top 10 percentile of the combined merit list are also offered this scholarship

SAU Scholarship/ Financial Support:

• This scholarship is offered on the need cum merit basis to the students

Miscellaneous Information:

• The students of the university are offered a fee waiver of maximum INR 22,000 on tuition fee per semester along with an allowance of INR 7,000 per month
• The students who are awarded the scholarships also get to stay at the hostel free of cost
• The University also offers a startup amount of INR 10,000 to the scholarship awardees who belong to the SAARC nations other than India
• For Indians, the startup amount is just half of what the others are offered

• The application forms for all the courses are available online
• The candidates have to go through an Entrance Exam for all the courses 
• The candidates need to score at least 50% marks for getting admissions
• The PhD courses require the candidates to go through personal interviews

• SAU New Delhi Infrastructure Facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls
• The hostels have facilities like geysers, room coolers, air conditioners and many more
• The hostels also have CCTV camera for security purpose
