VGSoM (Vinod Gupta School of Management)was established in 1993. It is a part of IIT Kharagpur and was the first school of management to be set up within an IIT. VGSoM IIT Kharagpur NIRF Ranking 2024 was #19 in the management category. It is one of the leading B-schools in terms of education, facilities, infrastructure and placements.
The institute offers postgraduate and doctoral courses in management. These include MBA, Executive MBA, PhD, Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA) and Management Development Programmes (MDP). Admissions are based on CAT, CSIR/UGC-NET. During 2024 admission, the CAT cutoff was 90 percentile.
According to the regulations of the Government of India (GOI), seats at the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) at IIT Kharagpur are reserved for candidates who are SC, ST, OBC, or EWS.
VGSoM maintains its high placement record. The final placement report for the 2022–24 class was provided by the institute and during the 2024 placement drive, the average package was INR 20.83 LPA, while the highest package was INR 37.07 LPA.

Vinod Gupta School of Management offers five courses in the field of management. The courses are offered in regular full-time format in association with various top institutes such as the Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and IIT Kharagpur.

VGSoM admission process can be divided into 3 steps: Entrance exam, shortlisting and interview. These may differ slightly as per different courses.
For 200 MBA seats, applicants must have valid scores of CAT and these details must be available on the application form. Based on the information in the form, the applicants are shortlisted for the next round of interviews. A composite score is prepared with all the details and that is used for the final merit list.
For the Executive MBA, the institute organised its entrance examinations. Students can find the sample papers for these exams. After the result of the entrance exam is released, selected students are called for an interview.
For PGDBA, a separate entrance exam is organised for shortlisted students called for an interview.
PhD is a doctoral course and applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria and have valid UGC-NET/JRF/INSPIRE scores are called for further process.
The institute also runs different management development programs of different durations and with varying eligibility criteria. These have direct admission.
For admission to the MBA program, Vinod Gupta School of Management requires valid CAT scores. There are two types of cutoffs for the admission process- qualifying cutoff and merit cutoff. Qualifying cutoff is the minimum score required to get shortlisted for the admission process. The final cutoff is the score that is required to gain a position on the merit list.
