International English Olympiad (IEO) is a two-level competitive exam for classes 1 to 12. IEO exam by the Science Olympiad Foundation is a grammar competition conducted in collaboration with the British Council. Earlier, IEO is conducted as a single-level exam, but in 2017 it has been changed into a two-level exam. Only the students from classes 3 to 12 are eligible for the SOF level 2 exams.

What is the International English Olympiad (IEO)?
People don't realize the real importance of exams like the English Olympiad. The English that we use is regionalized, and Indian English is very different from American or British English, and most people are unaware of this difference.
For example, we mostly say, 'I'm eating lunch,' but this is incorrect since you are consuming it. 'I'm having lunch' is the correct way to say so. IEO exam focuses on these kinds of concepts, communication skill development, and their usage. Students can compare themselves with other students on school, state, national, and international levels concerning their marks in this exam.

IEO Eligibility Criteria
The basic eligibility criteria for SOF International English Olympiad are the same as other competitive exams of SOF.
When it comes to the level 1 exam, students have to clear a few basic requirements mentioned below.
Criteria for IEO Level 1
Students do not have to clear any minimum marks bracket to give the level 1 exam.
A few basic eligibility criteria are mentioned below.
- The student's school must be affiliated with an Indian-recognized education board like CBSE, ICSE, etc.
- The student must be studying in classes 1 to 12.
Criteria for IEO Level 2
IEO level 2 eligibility criteria are completely based on the marks scored by the student in level 1.
Basic details of SOF IEO level 2 include
- School-level: Participants must be a class topper where there is a minimum of 10 participants.
- State-level: Participants must be a part of the top 25 rank holders.
- International level: Participants must score in the top 5% internationally.
Note- There is no Level 2 examination for any SOF IEO Olympiad examinations for the session 2021-22, students are rewarded on the basis of the Level 1 examination only.
IEO Registration Process
Schools can fill out the IEO registration form through the official website of SOF. Schools have to register a minimum of 5 students to participate in this exam. If the school is unable to participate, students can appear as individual participants with their parents/guardians' help. Roll numbers and guidelines are sent to their registered mobile number.
International English Olympiad Registration Fee
Each student has to give a fee of INR 125 (including GST). Students diagnosed with any major disability do not have to pay any fee to participate in SOF. Schools may take an additional fee of up to INR 25 as an honorarium for teachers who help and guide students throughout the main exam.

IEO Admit Card
Students can get their International English Olympiad admit cards from their school coordinators. Students can also download IEO admit cards from the SOF website using the details roll number and school code. The admit card contains details like the venue, address, time of the exam, and the instructions to be followed for attending the exam. A separate set of admit cards will be released for each level of the Olympiad.

IEO Syllabus
The International English Olympiad focuses on enhancing students' fluency in English as well as their writing. SOF IEO exam is designed as an objective-type test for 60 minutes, comprising 35 questions for classes 1 to 4 and 50 objective-type questions for classes 5 to 12. SOF International English Olympiad syllabus is framed based on the school curriculum.

IEO Sample Papers
SOF has provided students with sample papers. SOF IEO sample papers give the applicants a precise idea about the various exam patterns.

SOF IEO is completely based on the school syllabus, but there won't be any direct questions. SOF focuses on increasing participants' overall English knowledge.

IEO Results
Students who have appeared for the IEO exam can check their results on the SOF foundation's official website. SOF will release the IEO 2023-24 result in December 2023. Candidates are requested to enter their roll number and school code to check the result.
Students who have registered as individual participants have to check their results online by entering the following details.

IEO Cut Off Marks
International English Olympiad is conducted as a two-level exam, where students who clear the level 1 exam are qualified for the IEO level 2 exam. Students possessing great English speaking and grammar skills can easily get selected for level 2.
