BHU Grading System

Grade Report - A provisional semester grade report, which includes a record of cumulative performance, is given to each student after the semester (including the summer term) for the BHU grading system.
After all degree requirements have been satisfied, the final grade report is released. On payment of the required fee, a duplicate copy may be ordered if needed.
Withholding of Grades - If a student has unpaid fees, or a case of indiscipline is pending against him or her, or for any other justifiable reason, the grades may be withheld.
Modification of Grade Already Awarded - Once a letter grade has been given, it cannot be modified without the course convener's permission and the Chairman of the Senate of Banaras Hindu University.
However, such a request for a grade adjustment must be submitted on the required form within six weeks of the beginning of the next semester, along with any pertinent documentation and justification.
Inadequate Academic Performance
Each undergraduate student's academic performance is evaluated by the Academic Performance Evaluation Committee (APEC) as per the BHU grading system after a semester or term, and is deemed inadequate if it falls into one of the following categories:
- A student will be deemed "academically deficient" if, at the end of the specified academic year, they have not completed 75% of the requisite cumulative credit.
- A defective student has either not taken any courses from a prior semester or has taken them but failed.
- The deficit may result from failing classes, failing to register for courses due to illness or other reasons, etc.
- Students’ progress will be evaluated from semester to semester. A deficient student may be issued a Warning or Academic Probation, or his or her academic course may be canceled, depending on the level of seriousness of the deficiency.
BHU Results Evaluation
Students are continuously evaluated during a course based on their performance in two periodic exams, a final exam, short quizzes, tutorials, assignments, lab work (if any), make-up exams (if necessary), and other factors as per the BHU grading system.
The course convener will determine the relative weightage of each aspect after consulting with additional teachers (if applicable), and they will announce it during the first class of the course and post it on the course website.
