What is XAT Score?
XAT score is the raw score secured by a test-taker based on the total no. of correct and incorrect responses. More than 160 business schools in India accept XAT scores, including XLRI, Great Lakes, IMT, LIBA, TAPMI, etc.
Let us look at the marking scheme of XAT 2021 to better understand the XAT score.
- Total questions: 100
- Total marks: 100
- One mark was awarded for every correct answer
- 0.25 marks were deducted for every incorrect attempt
- For more than 8 consecutive unanswered questions, 0.10 marks per question were deducted
- The General Knowledge section did not have negative marking
On the basis of the marking scheme discussed above, let us take an example. Say, a test-taker attempts around 85 questions out of 100 in XAT. Out of this, he answers 75 questions correctly and 10 questions incorrectly. In this case, his total XAT score will be 75 - (1-0.25*10) = 82.5.

What is XAT Percentile?
XAT percentile refers to a candidate’s rank against all other candidates who appeared for the exam. For instance, let us assume that the XAT percentile of a test-taker is 99.7. It means that he/she performed better than 99.7% of the total candidates who took XAT that year.
MBA colleges accepting XAT scores shortlist candidates based on their percentiles and not raw scores. Therefore, it is important for candidates to know how the XAT percentile is calculated.

How to Calculate XAT Percentile?
The following formula was used for calculating XAT 2021 percentile:
No. of test-takers - Rank of a test-taker/ No. of candidates * 100
Let us understand the percentile formula through an example. Let us assume that 10,000 candidates appeared for XAT 2021, and candidate A achieved the highest marks. It implies that 9,999 candidates secured fewer marks than candidate A. Therefore, candidate A’s XAT percentile will be 9,999/10,000*100= 99.9.
