Bijoy Krishna girls college was established in the year 1947. It is one of the most renowned colleges of the state under the aegis of the University of Calcutta. The founder principal of the college Sri Bijoy Krishna Bhattacharya, Started a college with only a handful of girl students in the premises of Bhavani girls school and then later the college was known as Howrah Girls college. With its humble beginning, the college flourished through its journey of more than 70 years. There is no doubt that Bijoy Krishna Girls college has successfully enlightened generations of women to such a degree that they have emerged as triumphant empowered individuals both at home and in the world.

Bijoy Krishna girls college students are also involved in social activities through national service scheme befitting their social responsibilities. This college has always prioritized the pursuit of knowledge. It has perhaps no exaggeration to state that Bijoy Krishna girls college has played a pivotal role in the emancipation of women of the state and the country as well.

This college is one of the largest girls college in the eastern zone of the country.
