The Central Food Technological Research Institute is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi. It was established in 1950 in Mysore with an aim to pursue research in the field of Food Science and Technology. It has its resource centres at Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Lucknow.

The institute has an R&D department that mainly focuses on food engineering, molecular nutrition, and food safety. It offers postgraduate courses in Science, doctorate program, and an integrated M.Sc- PhD. It also offers a 10-month Flour Milling course at its International School of Milling Technology. The CFTRI admission is mainly based on the past academic records and the CFTRI  entrance examination. CFTRI signs an MoU with Clevergene for sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2Ngenome.
