Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical Medical College, Kanpur, is one of the finest Medical Colleges in Uttar Pradesh. The college was established in the year 1955, The institution was inaugurated by Dr. Sampoorna Nand, Chief Minister of UP on December 13, 1959. To begin with, the college was affiliated to Lucknow University and later in 1968, and since then has been imparting equality education in various Medical Programmes. The college has been approved by the Medical Council of India [MCI]. It facilitates modernly equipped classrooms and focuses on the practical knowledge of the students. GSVM Medical College, Kanpur is named after Late Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a great freedom fighter, who lost his life in Kanpur in March 1931. This was the first medical college of U.P. established in India, forming a landmark in the annals of medical education in the state of U.P. It is one of the five medical colleges in India established under the second five-year plan. GSVM Medical College Admission is based on the NEET score. Late Dr. S.N. Mathur was the first Principal of this college. GSVM Medical College is situated in the heart of the historic and industrial city of Kanpur. The city of Kanpur is embraced by the holiest river ‘Ganga’ from two sides, northwest [Kalyanpur] and northeast [Jajmau]. The Medical College has a sprawling campus with hospital and college sections accommodated in huge buildings. The main college building looks like a huge Palace and it is the biggest amongst all medical colleges in U.P. GSVM Medical College admissions 2024 offers multidisciplinary UG/ PG courses viz. MBBS with an intake of 190 students, MD/ MS/ PG Diploma courses in 11/ 6/ 4 specializations respectively.
Diploma in Pharmacy is being conducted in the department of Pharmacy of this college since 1962. This course is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India for an intake of 60 students. GSVM Medical College admission offers Diploma in Pharmacy course of 2 years’ duration including practical training of 3 months approved by the Pharmacy Council of India. Admission is done based on the entrance test conducted by UP State Medical Faculty. For eligibility, the student should have passed 10+2 examination in Science with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology to get GSVM Medical College admissions 2024. Admission to the candidates is given based on their score obtained in the entrance test conducted by UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow. The intake for the Diploma in Pharmacy is 60 students. The training fee for the course is Rs. 500/- per month.
Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College offers MBBS in 3 categories: Preclinical, Paraclinical, and Clinical. The course is for a duration of 4 and 1/2 years. As per the Medical Council of India, there are 9 semesters each of 6 months’ duration. Each category has multiple specializations with an intake of 190 students overall, 159 seats through C.P.M.T., 28 seats through CBSE Pre Medical Test and 3 seats for government nominee.

Applicants who have qualified NEET UG conducted by CBSE are eligible for admission. A student is eligible for entry to the course after clearing the 12th class (Intermediate) examination. Admission is made through UP State Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) conducted by Director General Medical Education and Training, UP for 85% seats and All India Medical Entrance Examination (CBSE Examination) for the remaining 15% seats. 3 seats are reserved for the nominee of the government of other states. Reservation of seats for scheduled caste/ tribes and other backward classes are made according to state government guidelines. NEET (UG) is a national level test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the 2nd week of May and is a pen-paper test of 3 hours’ duration.

Training to lab Technician is given in the Department of Pathology. The duration of the course is about one & a half years with 40 seats in total. The admission is through an entrance test conducted by UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow. Practical & oral examination conducted by U.P. State Medical Faculty, Lucknow, after completion of one & half years training. The training fee for this course is Rs. 500/-per month and Rs.250/-security money.
The college offers a few postgraduate programs in Doctor Of Medicine (MD), Master Of Surgery (M. S.), and PG Diploma Courses. The college offers 45 seats with 11 specializations in Doctor of Medicine (MD). The college offers 41 seats with 6 specializations in Master Of Surgery (MS). The college offers 19 seats with 4 specializations in PG Diploma Courses. All the diploma students are full-time postgraduate students attached to the concerned department. Duties and responsibilities are the same as M.D./M.S. students.

Candidates who have completed MBBS and internship are eligible to apply for admission into MS/ MD/ PG Diploma courses. Applicants can get admission based on the NEET PG result. NEET-PG is a computer-based test of 3 hours 30 minutes duration and has 300 MCQs to attempt. Candidates who belong to the General category and have scored a minimum of 50% are considered qualified and those who belong to SC/ ST/ OBC category should have obtained at least 40% to qualify the test. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counseling based on NEET PG merit at All India level for admission of the candidates against 50% of All India Quota seats. All the diploma students are full-time postgraduate students attached to the concerned department. Duties and responsibilities are the same as M.D./M.S. students. All the courses are of 2 years duration.

GSVM Medical College admission offers 2 Super Specialty courses. Candidates who have completed MS (Surgery) or MD (Medicine) are eligible to apply for NEET-SS conducted by the National Board of Examinations to get admission into the Super Specialty courses. Admission to the candidates is given solely based on their NEET-SS merit. Admission to the M.Ch course is made through All India M.Ch. entrance test managed by Director General of Medical Education and Training of U.P. state. Candidates who have passed their M.D. (Medicine) or M. S. (Surgery) course are eligible. NEET-SS is a computer-based test with 200 MCQs. The questions are based on MS/ MD syllabus taught in the Medical Colleges of the country approved by MCI. Only the Department of Cardiology of GSVM Medical College offers Super Specialty Courses to the aspirants. Admission to these courses is made through All India D.M./M.Ch. entrance test conducted by Director General of Medical Education and Training of U.P. state. Candidates who have passed their M.D. (Medicine) or M. S. (Surgery) course are eligible for the entrance test. The courses are for 3 years. The examination will be held at the end of three years. The admission fee is Rs. 2000/-.
