IIT Madras infrastructure offers students a wide range of amenities for a better learning experience. The IITM campus highlights includes hostels, a library, laboratories and sporting facilities on the premises.

The IIT Madras campus is on 617 acres of land, spreading across 2.5 kilometres in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The institute campus is vast and beautiful, surrounding a national park. It includes every facility required for the holistic academic development of students.

Some highlighting features of the IITM infrastructure are mentioned below.

Hostel

• Indian Institute of Technology Madras has separate hostels for boys and girls. 
• The IIT Madras hostels are spacious and well maintained with both single and twin-sharing facilities.
• The IITM hostel aims to become a home away from home for the admitted students.
• There are 15 hostels for boys and 5 hostels for girls named after rivers of India, such as Ganga, Jamuna, Alaknanda, Sarayu, Brahmaputra, Krishna, Narmada, and others.
• The girls' rooms have biometric locks for additional security, alongside kitchen items, refrigerators and a washing machine.
• Basic amenities like 24x7 electricity and power backup, sanitary facilities and nutritious food are offered round the clock.

Library

• IIT Madras has a central library, which plays a vital role in the student's and faculty's academic life, research, and teaching.
• The IIT Madras campus library has a 9001:2015 certification by TUV NORD of Germany, which helps maintain the library's systems and servers.
• The library is open from 8 am to 12 midnight on weekdays and from 9 am to 5:30 pm on weekends and holidays.
• The IIT Madras Infrastructure includes a 5-storeyed, fully air-conditioned library that is Wi-Fi enabled.

Optimum Location

• The IIT Madras campus is located at an optimum location in the city of Chennai.
• The institute is close to Raj Bhavan, 10 km from the Chennai Airport and 12 km from the Chennai Central Railway Station.
• In addition, the IITM campus is well connected by bus routes.

Green Campus

• One of the IIT Madras campus highlights is that it has been built around a Guindy National Park which is home to the majestic Blackbuck.
• In addition to Blackbuck, large numbers of chital (spotted deer), bonnet macaque, monkeys and other rare wildlife are seen around the campus.
• The institute also has an exemplary collection of migratory birds, ranging from the Forest Wagtail to the Pied Crested Cuckoo to the Golden Oriole.

Open Air Theatre

Classrooms and Lecture Halls

• The IITM infrastructure includes a Central Lecture Theatre with a seating capacity of 400 people.
• The hall is used for almost every in-house activity in IIT Madras.
