The Institute of Home Economics started in the year 1961 by a Registered Co-operative Society conducting a two-year Diploma course in Home Science. DLF provided the society with a property in South Extension on a 99 year lease. The Diploma course was later followed by a one year course in Teacher Training in Home Science. As the college started growing, the Co-operative Society was taken over by a Trust, ‘Home Economics Education Society’ with Mrs. Rameshwari Nehru as the President and many other renowned educationists, as its members.

Dr (Mrs) S. Malhan was the founder Director of the college. Her dynamism and keen involvement in the college affairs led to the recognition conferred by the University of Delhi and in 1969, Institute of Home Economics became a constituent college of University of Delhi.

Institute of Home Economics (IHE), New Delhi was established in 1961, is a premier college of the University of Delhi offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The Institute has grown from a college offering Home Science Diploma in 1961 to multiple disciplines keeping in tune with the changing trends in higher education. Entrance Exams & Admissions : Eligibility criteria for Home science honors in the Institute of hotel economics were purely merit based on 12th class. Cutoffs for particularly my course was comparatively little low because people consider home science course with no future scope. Although this course has a good future scope of given some more attention. I have given the medical entrance exam but didn't get any government college.

Fees & Scholarships : Institute of Home Economics, [IHE] Delhi Management Fee Structure. The fee for my course is Rs 24,000 per year. Scholarships like Free ship is available. Approximately 15 to 20 students got free ship. The loan is not needed but they are easily available.

Academics & Faculty : Classes usually start at 9 am to 5:30 pm. Regular projects and assignments are giving to us. Quality of teaching is not so influencing and the Method of teaching is old. The sports facility is available but not accessible to students.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : Only one hostel is available and the cost is around 8000 per month. PGs outside the college is 10,000 per month. The food quality and hygiene maintenance are not properly checked. It cost 35₹ per meal. Classroom have proper lights, the library does not have enough literature books like autobiographies or biographies. There is no proper dining hall. WiFi is available.

Clubs & Associations : Student society like drama, dance, singing are available. The main festival celebrated in college is an annual day, teachers day, independence day and republic day. Life in college is boring there are no sports accessible to students. We don't have any thing to do except studying.
