The National Institute of Siddha (NIS) in Chennai, established on 3rd September 2005, is a premier institution for Siddha medicine research and study in Tamil Nadu. It is one of eight national institutes set up by the Department of AYUSH, Government of India. NIS is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and is approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).

The National Institute of Siddha Provides both MD and PhD courses. Admission to the MD program is based on marks obtained in the All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET), conducted by the All India Institute of Ayurveda. For the PhD program, candidates must pass an entrance exam and interview.
