LIBRARY
The central library housed in a star shaped multi storied building with a plinth area of over 822 sq. mts. It is fully computerized with facilities like online referencing, reservation system etc. The library has separate lending and reference sections with a vast area of titles under all disciplines. The journal section subscribes major technical periodicals and foreign journals. The digital library facilities such as online journals (IEL online, ACME and ASCE subscribed through INDEST consortium) and NPTEL video classes can be accessed through the 20 computer terminals arranged in the first floor of the central library.
A book bank section is also functioning under a separate government scheme for the benefit of the SC/ST students alone. Library access is available to all the students and staff of this college during working hours. There are about 22800 books and 26 subscribed journals in the library covering engineering and allied subjects. The well-equipped reference section is made use of by students of other colleges also. R.I.T library is a part of the AICTE sponsored DELNET (Developing Library Network) program, which enables library cooperation and resource sharing across the globe.
COMPUTER CENTRE
Apart from sufficient computing facilities in each department, a central computer centre in also functioning in the college. It houses sufficient number of terminals on LAN and standalone PCs. Computer centre has a pool of software like Matlab, Stad Pro etc., and it maintains the campus wide communication facilities. Computer centre also facilitates an interactive terminal of EDUSAT and Language laboratory.
HOSTELS
RIT has two ladies hostels and one men�s hostel with an intake of 300 and 120, respectively. The college council decides procedure for hostel admission. A student committee operates the hostel mess with a PTA representative to monitor the operations. The hostel warden ensures the smooth functioning of mess operation. All residents of college hostels have to strictly obey the following rules.
� | The admission to the hostel is for one academic year. Rooms once allotted to the students for an academic year will not be changed except on special situations |
� | Guests can be permitted only if the permission is obtained. Entertaining unauthorized guest will lead to severe punishment, including expulsion from the hostel. |
� | Use of personal computer by a resident will be permitted only with prior permission of the warden. PC should not be used for objectionable purpose. |
� | The use of electrical appliances such as immersion heaters, electrical stove are forbidden. Private cooking is strictly forbidden. |
� | The residents shall not move furniture from its allotted place. |
� | All visitors to the hostel will have to make necessary entries in the visitor�s book. |
� | The inmates would have to bear the cost of any damage or disfigurement to the walls, installations and other properties of the hostel. |
COLLEGE BUSES
There are five buses operating on a regular basis. Two buses operate to Kottayam, and two buses to Changanacherry (via Karukachal and via Chigvanam) and one bus to Ettumanoor (via Kidangoor).
CANTEEN
A canteen is functioning in the college for staff and students. It is located near the three departments and Workshop building. Separate dining spaces for staff and students, ergonomic seating arrangements, clean and hygienic food at affordable prices are noteworthy.
CAFETERIA
A cafeteria is run for the students, staff, and visitors. It is located near the administrative block. PTA constructed the building and the dining space for this purpose.
AUDITORIUM
A mini-auditorium is available near the workshop building for academic or nonacademic activities of the college.
CONFERENCE AND SEMINAR HALLS
Conference hall adjacent to Principal�s chamber is equipped with overhead projector, slide projector, LCD projector, amplifiers etc. for conducting conferences and short-term programmes. Apart from seminar halls in individual departments, career guidance and placement cell maintains a seminar hall in the administrative block.
CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
Co-operative Society No.K943 functioning from 1997 onwards in the ground floor of administrative block. A co-operative store under this society is catering to the needs of the students and staff of this institution. The store located in the ground floor of administrative block supplies textbooks, work records, drawing instruments and other stationery articles needed for the students and staff.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING
RIT offers all round development of students by giving importance to physical education. The department functions in a three-storied building where the ground floor has a well equipped gym and fitness center with motorized electronic equipments, free weight and multi gym that are being used by students from 6.00 - 8.00 in the morning and 4.30-6.30 in the evening. The first floor consists of Table Tennis hall and the second floor is utilized for chess and caroms. Students in their leisure time during college working hours are permitted to practice these games. The well-built basketball, volleyball and football court are being used after class hours.
The playground is under construction and Rs. 47 lakhs is being allotted for its development. A mud cricket pitch is being constructed at the middle of the football court and cricket nets with both mud and concrete pitches are under construction. A 400m-mud track and a long jump pit are also getting ready. Football field with grass and proper drainage system is also under planning.
The college teams have participated in various games and have brought laurels to the college. The chess team won second position and the Table Tennis (men) team won the third position in the M.G. University south zone championship and got qualified for the M.G. Inter zone championship. The chess team won fifth position in the M.G. University Inter zone championship. The college football and the basketball team reached the quarterfinals and the cricket and table tennis team participated in inter collegiate south zone championship.
