Infrastructure:

Shyam Lal’s campus is moderate in size and has a beautiful garden like other colleges in Delhi. The college is building looks very big. The classrooms have comfortable wooden benches with some them having A/C also.

Bank

The college’s banker M/S Central Bank of India is located within the college campus. The bank offers all banking facilities to the teaching and non-teaching staff and students.  Account holders may also avail the facility of internet banking.

Canteen

A canteen is an important, though often, a somewhat neglected area of the College. It is a place where the students can refresh and rejuvenate themselves with wholesome food after a grueling schedule. Equally importantly, a canteen needs to provide the students with space and a relaxed atmosphere for them to interact with each other.

Keeping in view the importance of the Canteen in the day-to-day life of the College, the Canteen has been recently renovated, making it fully air-conditioned and among the first such canteens in the University. The college ensure that the Canteen provides a variety of food items to our students at affordable prices and in the most hygienic conditions. To monitor hygiene, quality and prices, the Staff Council constitutes a Canteen Committee. In the event of students having any grievance relating to canteen, they have the option of approaching the Canteen Committee directly or through their duly elected Students’ Union for speedy resolution of their grievances.

Central Computer Lab

The computer centre is a fully air-conditioned facility. It enables students to remain updated and to sharpen their skills in computing and related areas, so indispensible in today’s world. Students may make full use of this facility to hone their skills at handling computers.

Besides three well equipped computer laboratories for the students, the college also has a centralized computing facility created with the aid and assistance of UGC through University of Delhi.  It is located within the library premises. There is a dedicated network of advance computer system, on which free internet is available to all users.

Laboratories

The College has well-equipped Physics and Chemistry Labs to cater to the needs of B.Sc. Physical Sciences course that the College offers. The College is aware that with changing times and courses, these labs need to be continuously upgraded and updated. A large scale renovation of these labs has been completed during 2012 itself, which places these labs among the best in Colleges with comparable courses. The College now even has a small Biology Lab, since the recently revised course has a single Paper on Life Science.

Library

In any institution of higher learning, the library as the storehouse of knowledge needs to play a pivotal role. A modern library goes far beyond providing the readers with a large stock of books and periodicals, and a quiet, serene and comfortable place to study in. It is supposed to provide the readers information on the entire wealth of knowledge available on any selected topic on a mere click of a button. Apart from the physical books stocked within the library walls, it needs to provide the readers with access to shared E-resources from across the world. The SLC Library with its dynamic librarian and “always ready to help” staff has been continuously striving to keep pace with the changing times to provide the students with the very best of facilities.

The well-stocked Library has a rich collection of nearly 70,000 books on Science, Economics, Commerce, English Literature, Hindi, Political Science, History, Journalism, Environmental Science and Biology as well as periodicals and journals on these subjects. The fully automated library with a dedicated server and computers with internet connections accessible to faculty and students alike, the Library is now part of Delhi University Library Network, and has access to all its E-resources. Apart from a decent reading space for the students and faculty to study in, the students can also borrow text as well as reference books from the Library.

Medical Facility

Students are advised to enroll themselves with the W.U.S. Health Centre at the university (Near Patel Chest Institute, Maurice Nagar). The Medical officer of the College is available for advice and consultation in cases which require urgent attention.

Canteen is a place where the students can refresh and rejuvenate themselves with wholesome food after a grueling learning schedule. Keeping in view the importance of the canteen in the day-to-day life of the college, our canteen has been recently renovated and is fully air-conditioned now. The college has five well-equipped Physics, Chemistry and Botany Labs to cater to the needs of B.Sc. Physical Sciences course that the college offers. The college is aware that with changing times and courses, these labs need to be continuously upgraded and updated. A large scale renovation of these labs has been completed, which places these labs among the best in Delhi University colleges with comparable courses. The college also has a Botany Lab, since the recently revised course has a single paper on Life Science. The Sports Committee under the guidance of Sh. V.S Jaggi remained active throughout the academic session in its involvement with student participation in various games at National as well as University levels. Our students have participated both at National and Inter Varsity levels in different categories. Our students also secured positions in Inter College tournaments and won prizes and brought laurels to the College.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : I got admission in Shyam Lal College which is under Delhi University through merit basis. Entrance exam option was also there for some of the courses but in my course i.e. in history Hons I got admission through my 12th examination board marks. During my time history Hons cutoff was 98% for general. The best four marks counted and you have to choose colleges according to your percentage.

Placements & Internships : Shyam Lal College too extends the aforesaid vital service of placement in companies of repute to its students through its Placement Cell. The main endeavor of our college Placement Cell is to get students placed in reputed multinationals, government jobs, NGOs and the private sector. All students registered with the Placement Cell are entitled to placement assistance, counseling for employment and even self-employment. The Training & Placement Cell assures support to the visiting companies at every stage of recruitment process by making college infrastructure available to them.

Academics & Faculty : Our class starts from 9am onwards and end in 2:30.
