Shyam Lal College (SLC) is a co-educational constituent college of the University of Delhi. THe college was established in the year 1964 by the great visionary and entrepreneur Padmashree (late) Shri Shyam Lal Gupta. The foundation stone of the college was laid down by Dr. Zakir Hussain, the then Hon'ble Vice President of India and Chancellor of the University of Delhi. The aim of the college is to make quality education accessible to the students, especially girls, from the economically and educationally disadvantaged community of East Delhi. Since its establishment in 1964, SLC has come a long way and has become a centre of academic excellence in University of Delhi.

Spread over on a sprawling campus of 29,501 square meters and a built up area of 7,505,40 square meters, SLC offers 09 undergraduate courses in various streams of science, commerce and humanities and one postgraduate course (in Hindi). Two new courses have been approved by the University: Mathematics (Hons) and Chemistry (Hons). Shyam Lal College admission is done on the basis of merit only.

In order to keep up with the rising pedagogical demands, SLC college recently upgraded its infrastructure and other academic facilities. The college is now a Wi-Fi zone with internet access to every student and the staff. Last year, the college added an entire new building - the Porta Block - to its existing infrastructure including a 100 seater state-of-the art seminar room equipped with the latest ICT facility. Most of the rooms in the main building have been upgraded with LCD projector and other facilities. There are 07 well-equipped undergraduate labs in the college – Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Biology Lab, Electronics Lab and three Computer Labs. The computer labs of the college offer the very best in terms of hardware and software to the students and the faculty. staff room, library, office and canteen have been recently renovated into fine air-conditioned spaces. The entire campus is under CCTV surveillance.

Bank:

The college’s banker M/S Central Bank of India is located within the college campus. The bank offers all banking facilities to the teaching and non-teaching staff as well as the students. Account holders may also avail the facility of internet banking. The college also has the ATM facility, from the same bank, installed at the main entrance of the college.

Cafeteria:

The Cafeteria provides the students with space and a relaxed atmosphere in which they interact with one another.

Keeping in view the importance of the canteen in the day-to-day life of the college, the college canteen has been recently renovated and is fully air-conditioned. To monitor hygiene, quality and prices, the staff council, annually, constitutes a canteen committee. The canteen committee also addresses the canteen related grievances of the students. The students have the option of approaching the canteen committee directly or through their duly elected students’ union representatives for speedy resolution of their grievances.

Sports:

The Sports Committee remains active throughout the academic session. The students have participated both at National and Inter University levels in different categories.

Library:

SLC has a rich and well stocked ICT enabled library. It has more than 76000 books and subscribed journals on diverse subjects. The library of the college has vast collection of texts, reference books, journals, magazines, newspapers and e-resources that are regularly updated by the library staff with recommendations from the concerned departments.

The library staff annually organizes an orientation session for the first year students so as to familiarize them with the use of OPAC, e-resources and subject related books/material.The library also has OPAC facility to make the task of locating books easier for the students and the faculty. SLC library is automated and RFID technology will be introduced in the library in the near future.

B.Com. (Hons.)	An aggregate of 45% marks in the qualifying examination. The applicant must have studied and passed Mathematics/Business Mathematics at the qualifying examination for admission to B. Com. (Hons.). Selection shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in qualifying examination including one language and three best subjects as per the following: An aggregate of 45% or more in English/Hindi and combination of best three among the following subjects: Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies/ Commerce.
B.Com.	An aggregate of 40% marks in the qualifying examination. Selection shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in qualifying examination including one language and three best subjects as per the following: An aggregate of 40% or more in English/Hindi and combination of best three among the following subjects: Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies/ Commerce.
B.Sc. (Hons.)	Mathematics, one language and two other subjects listed as academic subjects. Shyam Lal College Admission Procedure:

Shyam Lal College offers admission as per the guidelines directed by University of Delhi for all the UG courses.

Admission into UG merit-based courses such as BA, BSc and BCom commence in the month of May every year.
After the filling of application form and the release of cut-offs, eligible students would be required to fill in the college admission form available at the college office during the time of admission
All the students would be required to submit several documents including class 10^th examination certificate, class 10^thand 12^th mark sheets, character certificate, class 12^th provisional certificate, ST/SC certificate, OBC certificate, transfer certificate from school along with the migration certificate (in case the student has done his/her schooling from outside Delhi) and three passport size photographs self-attested by the student.
After the verification of the submitted documents, student is requested to pay the fee for the desired course at the Admission Office to confirm his/her admission.

Placements & Internships : Shyam Lal College too extends the aforesaid vital service of placement in companies of repute to its students through its Placement Cell. The main endeavor of our college Placement Cell is to get students placed in reputed multinationals, government jobs, NGOs and the private sector. All students registered with the Placement Cell are entitled to placement assistance, counseling for employment and even self-employment. The Training & Placement Cell assures support to the visiting companies at every stage of recruitment process by making college infrastructure available to them.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : I got admission in Shyam Lal College which is under Delhi University through merit basis. Entrance exam option was also there for some of the courses but in my course i.e. in history Hons I got admission through my 12th examination board marks. During my time history Hons cutoff was 98% for general. The best four marks counted and you have to choose colleges according to your percentage.

Fees & Scholarships : The history Hons course fee is Rs.20,000 per year. SLC offers distinctive awards or scholarships to meritorious students who display exemplary brilliance in academics in various disciplines. The College also offers Academic Recognitions to meritorious students: those who acquire I, II and III Positions in Academic results in all undergraduate & Post-graduate courses. Other than these, the students also apply for Scholarships such as: (a) Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir (since 2011) under the MHRD, Govt. of India, (b) YuvaNirman Scheme under the aegis of Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust with Delhi University Scholarship Cell promoting it, (c) Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, (d) Scholarship from the World Brotherhood Organization [Amount of Rs. 20,000], and (e) All India Entrance Scholarship Examination instituted by University of Delhi in 2015. All Scholarships—procedures of application and information have been made online at the National e-Scholarship Portal, an all-in-one service medium for seekers of all types of Scholarships.

Academics & Faculty : Our class starts from 9am onwards and end in 2:30. Teachers are so sincere, they have such a good teaching skill, they take presentation along with assignments and we have to give both because on this basis we get our internal marks. Overall the quality of teaching is so good. And my overall experience in college is nice.

We ensure that the canteen provides hygienic and healthy food items to our students, faculty and non-teaching staff at affordable prices. SLC has Four fully functional computer labs that are used by the students and the faculty for practical classes and other research related works. All these labs are fully air-conditioned and well stocked with all the latest software and hardware. These facilities enable the students to remain updated and to sharpen their skills in computing and related areas. Besides these four well equipped computer laboratories that have many computers, there is also one knowledge resource centre where students and teachers can acquire abundant knowledge through e-resources by accessing world’s best databases, e-journals, e-books and reports in an easy and expeditious manner. It is located within the library premises and has the seating capacity of 50 with separate computer system in every cubicle. The computers are regularly updated with new software as well as with updated versions of existing software. The facility is available on all working days from 09.00 AM to 05.00 PM. The college has five well-equipped Physics, Chemistry and Botany Labs to cater to the needs of B.Sc. Physical Sciences course that the college offers. The college is aware that with changing times and courses, these labs need to be continuously upgraded and updated. A large scale renovation of these labs has been completed, which places these labs among the best in Delhi University colleges with comparable courses. The college also has a Botany Lab, since the recently revised course has a single paper on Life Science. The Sports Committee under the guidance of Sh. V.S Jaggi remained active throughout the academic session in its involvement with student participation in various games at National as well as University levels. Our students have participated both at National and Inter Varsity levels in different categories. Our students also secured positions in Inter College tournaments and won prizes and brought laurels to the College.

In the premises of college or university students have more opportunity to take the scholarship. People who need for scholarship college provides us scholarship for his education.

College Infrastructure & Hostel Facilities : There are more pgs available nearby college some as shahdra and jhilmil metro station. The cost is not so high and they are suitable for students.
