Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Infrastructure: Library, Gym, Cafeteria & Other Facilities

The SMMCH and RI, is provided with land of over 27.11 acres. The Medical College, Hospital, Hostels, Faculty Quarters, Cafeteria and Playgrounds are all provided within the campus.

Hospital:

A Hospital with 700 beds at present and to be expanded with 850 beds ultimately was established at Chikarayapuram with all laboratories, others investigation and inpatient treatment facilities and it started functioning catering to the medical needs of the area from September 2007. A Medical College was established in the year 2009 in the name and style of Sri Muthukumaran Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, at Chikkarayapuram near Mangadu and has been approved by the Authorities to function from 2010-2011.this institute will fall under the category of Telugu Minority Institution.

The infrastructure at the College has been made to provide its students the best educational environment in the country. The Medical College has advanced, fully air-conditioned state of the art class rooms, modern laboratories and library.

The campus has student’s hostel, faculty quarters, play grounds, canteens, ATMs.

Lab Facilities:

ANATOMY

DISSECTION HALL

The spacious, well-ventilated dissection hall has the infrastructure to accommodate 150 students. Experienced faculty help students use the modern laboratory facilities. The department provides 10 cadavers for dissection and demonstration every year, for 150 students.

MUSUEM

Here, dissected human body parts, models of the human body and developmental details of prenatal life are exhibited. Students find these museum specimens helpful in consolidating what they learnt in the dissection hall.

HISTOLOGY LABORATORY

The laboratory is equipped with more than a hundred microscopes and other infrastructure that help students understand the microscopic structure of human organs and the organization of tissues.

BIO - CHEMISTRY

At the biochemistry laboratory, students have access to every kind of equipment for the study of biomolecules. The spacious laboratory has colorimeters, centrifuges, distillation units, electronic balances, microscopes, a flame photometer, automated pipettes and dispensers.

The clinical biochemistry laboratory at SMMCH & RI Medical College Hospital is also equipped to facilitate student's practice. It has clinical chemistry analyzers, blood gas analyzers and ELISA analyzers, an HbAIC analyser, flame photometers and auto analyser.

The research laboratory is equipped with some of the latest equipment including electrophoresis units (polyacrylamide gel systems), chromatography units, homogenizers, distillation units, research microscopes, autoclaves, spectrophotometers, pH meters, UV lamp and incubators that assist postgraduate students in conducting high level research.

MICROBIOLOGY

As a part of the SMMCH & RI Medical College Hospital, the department takes care of its patients in the area of bacteriological, parasitological, serological (including viral serology) and mycological investigations. The microbiology division of the central laboratory is adequately equipped for handling these investigations. There are separate internal, as well as external, quality control programs to ensure the reliability of reports.
