NHTET 2023 Application Form
The NHTET 2023 application form will be available online on the official website of Tourism and Hospitality Institute Management System - www.thims.gov.in. Candidates must thoroughly go through the eligibility criteria (mentioned above) before filling in the application form. The step by step to fill the NHTET 2023 application process is given below.
Before making the online application, the candidates have to purchase a demand draft from any of the banks that are scheduled to receive the application fee of the NHTET exam. The demand draft number will be required while filling in the NHTET 2023 exam application form.
Registration
- Candidates should click on the registration link in the homepage of the website. As a new user, click on "Register Now" where the candidate needs to provide all their personal details such as name, gender, father's name, mother's name, religion, date of birth, email ID, mobile number, category etc. Enter the verification code and submit.
- The scanned copy of passport size photograph in the required resolution and pixel should be maintained to upload that in the application form. Scanned copy of any valid ID card such as Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving Licence and Passport will also be required to upload in the application.
- Candidates who do not have any postgraduation degree in Hospitality need to fill the work experience details at least two years in the Hospitality industry.
Payment
- The online application fee for all the General/EWS/OBC male candidates is INR 800. And for all the SC/ST/PwD as well as the female candidates, the application fee is INR 400.
- The NHTET exam application fee is only payable through the demand draft. The candidate is required to mail the demand draft in favour of NCHMCT payable at Noida or Delhi, together along with the printout of the three pages application form to the NCHMCT office by speed post or registered post only.
What is NHTET?
About the NHTET Exam: The NHTET stands for the National Hospitality Teachers Eligibility Test. It is a national level test conducted every year by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT). Upon qualifying this exam a person is deemed eligible for the posts of Teaching Associates (TA) and Assistant Lecturers (AL) at any government-aided, PSU aided or private sector Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) affiliated by the NCHMCT.
The NHTET qualified candidate will not have any right of automatic induction in NCHMCT affiliated IHMs. They have to face a separate selection process for induction as Assistant lecturer or Teaching Associates.
Number of Affiliated Institutes: There are a total of 66 Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in India, out of which 21 and 24 of them are central and state IHMs respectively. The rest 20 IHMs are run privately, and one is PSU run IHM.

The official notification announcing the important dates related to the NHTET 2023 is awaited. The application process is likely to commence in the second week of February, 2023. Till the finalized schedule is released, the candidates must refer to all the tentative dates given below:

NHTET 2023 Eligibility
The candidates who will be deemed eligible to apply for the NHTET 2023 exam must have the following qualifications. Candidates are advised to check the criteria in terms of educational qualification and age limit before applying for the exam.
Education Qualification
- Candidates must have a full-time Bachelor’s degree (regular) in Hospitality or Hotel Management and Administration from a recognized Institute of Hotel Management with at least 55% aggregate marks, and at least two years of real-time working experience in the Hotel Management Industry after the completion of the course(6 months IT is part of Courses, not to be considered as experience for this purpose) or,
- A full-time Master’s degree (regular) in Hospitality or Hotel Management and Administration from a recognized Institute of Hotel Management after a full-time Bachelor’s degree (regular) in the same, with at least 55% aggregate marks in both the courses.
- Students in the final semester (4th semester) of their Master’s degree in Hospitality or Hotel Management and Administration are also eligible to apply, given that they score at least 55% aggregate during their graduation. They must have passed in all subjects in the previous semesters of their Master’s course.
- Students in the 3rd semester of their Master’s degree in Hospital/Hotel Management are not eligible to apply for NHTET 2023 Exam.
Age Limit
- Generally, the age limit should not be more than 35 years. However, relaxation of age for five years is applicable for different categories. The age to be counted for the NHTET held from January to May will be considered as on 31st July of the same year, and for the NHTET to be held from July to October will be considered on 31st December of the same year. The maximum age limit criteria are as follows.

- The candidates who qualify the NHTET exam are then allowed to apply against any vacancies of Teaching Associate and Assistant Lecturer in any of the Institutes of Hotel Management across the country while adhering to the age mentioned above limit criteria.
- A candidate may appear for the NHTET exam as many times as he/she wants, as long as the upper age limit is maintained, i.e., till the age of 35 years for General and EWS candidates, 38 years of age for OBC (non-creamy layers) candidates, and 40 years of age for SC/ST and PwD candidates.
NHTET 2023 Admit Card
The NHTET 2023 Admit Card will be available on the same website where the application had been applied from thims.gov.in. The candidate has to download and take a printout of the admit card to produce it at the exam centre. Candidate must also carry original copy of the ID proof uploaded in the application form, along with the printout of the NHTET admit card to the exam centre.
How to download the NHTET 2023 Admit Card
Candidates can download the NHTET 2023 by following the step by step process given below. The admit card contains the details of the candidate and the exam centre.
- Visit the official website of NCHMCT and click on the admit card link.
- On the admit card page, the candidate will be asked to enter their login ID, password and verification code.
- Click on the login button and the NHTET 2023 admit card will be displayed on the screen. Candidates must download and take the printout of the admit card.
NHTET 2023 Exam Centre
The NHTET 2023 will be held at 16 cities across India in different exam centres. The details of the exam centre will be shown in the admit card of the candidate. Candidate should select/choose the exam centre at the time of filling the NHTET application form.

NHTET 2023 Exam Pattern
Candidates aspiring for the NHTET exam must have a clear idea about the exam pattern and the syllabus. The test comprises 3 papers where Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are asked. The detailed exam pattern is given below.
Sessions and Paper: The NHTET exam comprises 2 sessions and 3 papers – Paper I, Paper-II, and Paper III.
Paper I and Paper-II: All the three papers will be conducted on a single day, in two successive separate sessions - the first Session at 9:00 am - 11:00 am. The duration of the first session is 2 hours and it consists of two papers, Paper I and Paper-II. Each paper is of 100 marks. Each paper carries 50 questions of 2 marks each.
Paper III: The second session is conducted from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. The duration of the second session is also 2 hours. It commences after 30 minutes of the completion of the first session. It consists of only one paper- paper III, which is of 200 marks. Paper III has 100 questions of 2 marks each.
Mode of Exam: The NHTET is an offline exam where candidates will be provided with an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet to record their answers in, along with the question paper booklet. It must be noted that only a single Question Paper Booklet and a single OMR Sheet will be provided in the First Session. The candidates are required to record their answers for both Papers I and Paper II in the same OMR Sheet.
Marking Scheme: Candidates will be awarded 2 marks for each correct response in all the three papers. 0.5 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer or attempts made more than once. No marks will be deducted for questions that are not attempted at all.

Note: Candidates who are physically challenged or the Persons with Disability (PwD) who are unable to write on their own are eligible to avail the services of a writer by making a written request to the Coordinator of the NHTET exam centre, at least one week before the NHTET exam date.
Other compensatory times and facilities will not be provided to other PWD categories.
NHTET 2023 Syllabus
- Paper I: It is a general paper that will assess a candidate’s teaching and research aptitude. It will contain 50 multiple choice objective type questions to test the general knowledge, general awareness, general comprehensive ability, reasoning ability and teaching method of the candidate.
- Paper II: It will contain 50 multiple choice objective type questions to assess the knowledge of the following subjects - Nutrition, Food Science, General Management and Hotel Accounts.
- Paper III: It will contain 100 multiple choice objective type questions to assess the knowledge of the four core domains of hospitality - Food Production, Food and Beverage Service and Management, Accommodation Operation Management and Housekeeping Management
NHTET 2023 Answer Key
The answer key of the NHTET exam will be uploaded on the official website where the candidates can check the answers as well as challenge the answers with proper documentary evidence within four days of the publication of the answer key, only by mailing it to diraf-nchm@nic.in. No challenges to the answer will be accepted after the last date of correspondence. The correspondent challenge to any answer will be forwarded to the expert committee for checking, and their decision along with the revised answer key will be uploaded on the same website within five working days. In case of any changes made to the original answer key, the answer sheets will be again evaluated based on the revised answer key within four working days.
NHTET 2023 Results
The result of the NHTET exam will be published with the list of candidates qualifying as well as those not qualifying, on the official website of the Tourism and Hospitality Institute Management System (THIMS).
Should any candidate desire to see their answer sheet, they must visit the NCHMCT office in Noida, within 90 days of the declaration of the results. A candidate may also ask for a copy of their answer sheet, under the RTI guidelines, by depositing a required amount of fee within the same 90 days. These records will be disposed of after the 90 days are over.
The NHTET Certificates of Qualification shall be dispatched to the candidates at their given address within the shortest time possible. Nonetheless, the downloaded result from the website above will also be considered valid until the candidates receive the original certificate.
NHTET 2023 Minimum Cutoff
To be eligible for the posts of both Assistant Lecturer as well as Teaching Associate at any NCHMCT affiliated Institute of Hotel Management across India, the following minimum qualifying marks must be obtained in each paper as well as in their aggregate separately:

Therefore, the candidate declared pass for applying against Teaching Associateship would not be eligible to apply against any vacancy of Assistant Lecturer. Such a candidate has to take a further chance in subsequent NHTET to pass with the required percentage prescribed for becoming eligible to the post of Assistant Lecturer.
