Section A: Psychometric Test

Section B: Descriptive Test

There will be 2 parts to the description section in the MICAT:

• Argument or Opinion Writing
• Creative Writing

A good way to prepare for argument/opinion writing is to pick a current issue. Write 3 points in favour of the topic and 3 points against it, and finally, come up with a conclusion. Practice this way three times a week to enhance your lucidity in writing.

As for the creating writing part, you will be given four pictures, and you need to create a logical story out of them. It should have a good introduction so that you can create an impression, followed by the main body and conclusion. To attain perfection in this part, observe various pictures in newspapers, magazines, etc., and try framing a story.

Section C: Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Divergent and Convergent Thinking, and General Awareness

Verbal Ability

The verbal ability section will include verbal & non-verbal questions. Several books are available in the market that can help students with Verbal Ability. Buying one book will benefit you for multiple exams. You must master topics like Reading Comprehension, Statement Conclusion, Para Jumbles, etc. Moreover, solve questions based on fill-in-the-blanks and para completion.

You can also pick up magazines and newspapers that have rich content. Search for meanings of complex words and try to use them in sentences. Also, look for the synonyms and antonyms of the particular word.  

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

One needs to prepare questions based on Arithmetic, Numbers, Geometry, Mensuration etc., to ace this section. The key is to clear basic concepts and master them. Once you have a solid foundation in every topic, you will be able to solve the questions easily. Here are some ways to prepare for the QA-DI section

• Attempt mock tests at regular intervals, identify your weaknesses and work on them.
• Revise theories and formulas from time to time before appearing for the exam.
• If you are weak in a specific area, solve a minimum of 50-70 questions from that topic.
• Focus only on mock tests that contain a variety of questions.

Divergent and Convergent Thinking

Questions in this section are unpredictable; they may be in the form of puzzles, word association, visual reasoning, etc. You must practice several mock tests to prepare for this section.

There are many books out there that you can also refer to for preparation. Come up with different solutions to tackle the problem, and with practice, you will be good to go for this section.

General Awareness

Candidates must stay updated with national and international current affairs to perform well on General Awareness. Moreover, questions from static GK topics will also be present in the paper. Read newspapers regularly or download 1-2 news applications to get information about all the latest happenings.
