The Bachelor's Degree Program in Library and Information Science (BLIS) was started in response to the demand for many trained human resources in the library and information activities field. Master of Library and Information Science
The general objective of this program is to contribute to building professional human resources to meet the varied demands for information handling in libraries and information centres in the country. The program comprises seven core courses and two elective courses. The medium of instruction is English, whereas the students can also write the assignments and TEE in Hindi.
The course duration period is a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years.

Post Graduation Diploma in Library Automation and Networking
The Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) aims to develop the professional competencies of library and information professionals in an automated and networked environment.
The program's objective seeks to impart the learner's knowledge and skills. The skills are associated with fundamentals of computer technology and library automation and services provided by an automated library to design and develop a program by enhancing skills in programming based on specific languages such as Java or Visual Basic, or C++.
Doctor of Philosophy in Library & Information Science
The Ph.D. in Library and Information Science was launched in 2001 to facilitate library and information science research, particularly in open and distance learning. A candidate who has completed his/her postgraduation can apply for admission to this program.
Certificate in Library and Information Science
This program is meant for sensitive library and information professionals at the grassroots level. It provides an opportunity for professionals already working in a related area. The program comprises subjects dealing with both the theoretical as well as practical aspects.
The medium of instruction is English, whereas the students can also write the assignments and TEE in Hindi. The course duration period is at least six months and a maximum of two years.
IGNOU Library Course Admission Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria are different for the IGNOU library courses that the IGNOU provides. The IGNOU library courses admission 2023 eligibility criteria are mentioned below for its various levels of courses.
Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS)
Candidates must possess any of the following degrees to apply for the Bachelor of Library and Information Science.
- Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks and 45% for General and the SC/ST/OBC/PH category, respectively.
- Bachelor’s Degree with Diploma (one year) in Library Science
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of working experience in Library and Information Centre.
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)
Candidates applying for this IGNOU Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) must have a Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science and Associateship from NISCAIR or DRTC.
Post Graduation Diploma in Library Automation and Networking
The candidate applying for admission to the IGNOU Library course must have a Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science.
Certificate Programme in Library and Information Science (CLIS)
The candidate applying for admission to the IGNOU Library program must have passed (10+2) successfully.
Doctor of Philosophy in Library & Information Science
To apply for the Doctor of Philosophy in Library & Information Science, candidates must possess any of the following degrees:
- The candidates must have a Master's Degree from a University recognized by UGC or any qualification recognized as equivalent in such fields of study with at least 55% marks.
- 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time.
- The candidate needs to qualify for the entrance examination conducted by IGNOU at the National level.
