National Board of Examinations (NBE)
The Indian Government set up the National Board of Examinations (NBE) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India) in 1975 and located it at Dwarka in Delhi. They established NBE to bring a uniform evaluation of candidates for postgraduate courses in India.
The NBE, the National Board of Examinations conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral entrance exams for admission into 54 disciplines in medicine. NBE conducts nine examinations every year. Mr. Bipin Batra is the executive director of the NBE.
The medical standard of India was not as developed as compared to foreign countries. Therefore, they considered the National Board of Examinations the best tool to provide a common ground and standard for medical entrance examinations. It enables a similar mechanism of evaluation of the minimum level that a student must attain for postgraduate courses in India. It also implements values from international countries that will help improve the situation of examination in India.
