Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology, [IERT] Allahabad was established in the year 1982. Earlier, Civil Engineering School was started by a society named “Institute of Engineering & Technology” in the year 1955. Later, Uttar Pradesh Government took over this Institute by constituting a registered society named “Allahabad Polytechnic, Allahabad” in the year 1962. After reviewing the multifarious activities and the achievements of the institute, the U.P. Government changed the name of “Allahabad Polytechnic” to “Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology (IERT)” in the year 1982.

The Engineering Degree Division of IERT was established in 2001. The IERT is affiliated with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). The Institute was awarded Academic Autonomy by the State Government.

IERT Admissions will be done through merit list of UPSEE entrance exam for engineering courses. Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) conducts state-level Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam for the admissions.
