There will be a difference in normalization between GATE papers for a single session and multiple sessions.
For single-session GATE papers, raw marks are taken into account to compute GATE scores. Whereas the authorities normalize the actual marks for GATE papers conducted in multiple sessions, and they use these normalized marks to calculate the GATE scores.

The IITs use the normalization formula to arrive at a score at par with the difficulty level.
The GATE score of a candidate is obtained using a formula out of 1000. On the other hand, the marks of a candidate are the number scored by a candidate in the exam out of 100.

Difference Between GATE 2024 Score and Normalization Score
The GATE 2024 scores and normalized scores are different from each other.
The GATE score is calculated for all the papers, and the same is presented in the scorecard; the normalization process is applied for the papers that are conducted for multiple sessions and are reflected through the GATE results.
- The conducting authority does not consider the normalized score for final results. The final results are published by using the GATE scores.
- Moreover, the GATE normalised score can be accessed by all the candidates, but only the qualified candidates can access the GATE score.

How are GATE 2024 Normalized Scores Calculated?
With the different sessions conducted, the difficulty level of each paper varies in each session. In order to bring a normalized score with all the sessions attempted, GATE Normalisation Formula is applied to the score statistics.

How are the GATE 2024 Scores Calculated?
Before getting into formulas, keep in mind that the actual GATE marks achieved by a candidate will be used to calculate the GATE score.
The formula displayed in the image below is utilised in calculating the scores for the multi-papers excluding CE, CS, and EE.
Based on the qualifying marks of the candidate, the raw marks or the normalized marks of the candidate in a single session/multi-session will be taken into account for calculating the GATE 2024 score.
Note: The GATE score is calculated for all the papers for the scorecard, while the normalized score is calculated for the papers conducted in multi sessions. The normalized score is not used to calculate the final marks of a candidate. The GATE Score should be used to calculate the final marks.

What are GATE 2024 Qualifying Marks?

Details for GATE 2024 Scorecard
The scorecard will reflect the GATE 2024 scores calculated for all the papers. In order to check out the scorecard, the appeared candidates must check out the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
The candidates who will score equal to or more than the qualifying cutoff marks will be eligible to apply for admission. Applicants must keep their GATE scorecard safe and preserve it for their future use during the M.Tech admission process.
However, candidates must note that their GATE score validity is for three years.
