Eligibility Criteria For The GAT-B Entrance Exam
Students willing to appear for this exam must go through the eligibility criteria set by the RCB. Though the graduate aptitude test for the biotechnology exam has no specific limit on the number of attempts students must mandatorily meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the exam. Below are some of the eligibility criteria and guidelines that all candidates should follow.
- Only legal residents of India are allowed to appear for this entrance exam. NRIs will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
- The age limit is set to a maximum of 28 years for General categorical students while there are some relaxations provided to other categories. Get in touch with your institution to know more about the age limit criteria.
- Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Allied Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Microbiology, Zoology, and any other related field.
- Students who wish to appear for the exam must score at least 55% in their qualifying exams. On the other hand, 50% is the minimum mark required for SC/ST/PwD.
- Final-year students willing to appear for the exam are eligible but they are required to provide proof of completion.
- Candidates who have already completed their Master’s degree in biotechnology will not qualify to sit for the exams.

GAT-B Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
The question paper for the GAT-B entrance exam will include questions divided into two sections. The first section which will be marked as ‘Section A’ in the question paper will include 60 multiple-choice questions which needs to be answered by all students mandatorily. The questions will be based on the level of 10+2 science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Candidates must note that in addition to scoring a mark each for every correct answer, there is also a negative mark for every wrong answer. The official website has made it clear that they will deduct half a mark (½ or 0.5) for every wrong answer.
The second section which will be marked as ‘Section B’ in the question paper will again feature MCQs of Bachelor’s level. Questions could be set by the board from subjects and topics varying from Life Sciences, Basic Biology, Biotechnology and allied sciences as per syllabus. There will be a total of 100 questions out of which candidates will just have to attempt 60. In this section every correct answer will fetch three (3) marks to the candidate.
