27% of the seats are allotted to OBC candidates from the non-creamy layer (OBC NCL). 15% and 7.5% of the seats are reserved for the SC and ST category candidates. 2 supernumerary seats are reserved for eligible candidates from J&K and Ladakh.

The NISER merit list is prepared after analysing the candidate's performance in the NEST exam. Some of the merit list parameters are as follows:
- The NISER merit list is prepared based on NEST results. Therefore, candidates must perform well in the exam.
- To be included in the NEST merit list 2024, candidates must score at or above a total Minimum Admissible Percentile (MAP).
- To be ranked in NISER's merit list, candidates must score equal to or higher than the SMAS and all four topic sections.

NISER Counselling Process
NISER counselling process is held for all the candidates who qualified NEST exam. Further, candidates must begin by registering themselves through the online portal.
- The list of qualified candidates is prepared and published online through the official website.
- Candidates who find their names in the list must report to the counselling centre.
- Upon successful completion of the counselling, candidates will be allotted seats.
- The reservation of seats is considered while calculating the NISER Seat Matrix 2024.
- Candidates whose names are not in round 1 of counselling are assigned to the waiting list.
- These candidates are allotted seats through round 2 counselling.
NISER Admission Process
The NISER admission process is simple. Candidates must score the minimum cutoffs to participate in further admission. The steps are as follows:
- Appearing for the exam: candidates have to appear positively for the NEST examination. The dates and centres are announced through the admit card.
- Score the Minimum Cutoff: the cutoff varies for each category. Hence, candidates must score the minimum marks for their category to participate in the further rounds.
- Display of Merit Lists: The merit lists for the admission process are prepared for the candidates who qualify for the cutoffs. The merit list will reflect the candidate's marks, position, and other statuses.
- Appear for Counselling: Candidates who find their name in the merit list must appear for the counselling process. The NISER Seat Matrix 2024 is released after the counselling. Additionally, Email will be sent to all candidates in the merit list for collecting Expression of Interest (EOI) for joining NISER. Candidates need to fill it up before the last date.
NISER Percentage Requirement
