The National Institute of Design (NID) was formed in 1961 and it has been a place for design education practice and research. NID is one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the area of design education and research. NID has been listed as one of the top 25 European and Asian programmes in the world by The Business week USA. By virtue of the National Industrial Act 2014, NID has been declared as Institution of National Importance by the act of Parliament, under Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, as a scientific and industrial design research organisation. National Institute of Design is recognised by the Dept. of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR). The three main campuses of NID are Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Gandhinagar. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad is the first to be formed amongst the three and also known as the 'Heritage Campus'.

After Bauhaus and Ulm in Germany, NID has been a pioneer in industrial design education and is known for its pursuit of design excellence. National Institute of Design Fees:

The fee structure of NID is relatively affordable comparing among other design school offering courses with best standards. The fee structure of the courses offered by the campus are given below.

Indian Students: 

  •  For B.Des it is 126000 INR (for Sem I &II), 135000 INR (for Sem III & IV), 144500 INR (for Sem V&VI), 155000 INR (for Sem VII & VIII)

NID Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the various courses proposed by National Institute Of Design the candidates should satisfy the eligibility criteria put forward by the institute.

B.Des
  • Applications for the academic year are open for applicants who have passed or will appear for their  higher secondary (10+2) exams.
  • Students from any stream (Science, Commerce, Arts etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent are eligible to apply
  • A valid DAT score is required
  • The students who have passed their respective exams must  hold minimum 50% of marks.
M.Des
  • Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization.
  • In the absence of degree applicant should have full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture etc.
  • Only the candidates with the score of 50% and above in their UG/Diploma will be eligible for the admission to NID.
  • The final year Bachelor degree/ Full-time Diploma programme applicants whose certicates are not issued by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply.
  • The final year applicants shouldn't be having any backlog
  • Should have a valid DAT score
Ph.D
  • Should have Master's degree or equivalent from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks
  • DAT score is mandatory
  • Should submit an authentic Ph.D proposal regarding the significance.

National Institute of Design Admission:

Admission to all of the design courses in the institution is on the basis of performance of the candidates in the two stages of the Design Aptitude Test(DAT). It is mandatory that they should fulfill all the eligibility criteria.

  • Candidates should be quaified in DAT
  • The Candidates who are shortlisted after the DRT will be invited to appear for an interview and after that they should 
    make presentations to a committee at NID.
  • Admission is based on the final merit list
  • Candidates who are appearing for their higher secondary final exam can also apply.
  • Applicants holding OCI and PIO card should have to apply only under the Overseas (supernumerary) category.
  • For accepting offer of admission overseas candidates are required to visit the
    NID campus in person with respect to the schedule.
  • Foreign citizens,applicants who are having the citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India are only eligible to apply under the overseas (supernumerary) category

 

NID Cut Off:

The Cut Off proposed by the institution is based on the marks obtained by the applicants in their previous exams. NID Cut off is mainly based on DAT exam.

  • G.D and Personal interview scores were  also considered.
  • Cut off is also effective for the students from abroad also.
  • The cut off  standards is based on categorical basis such as each category has different cut of rates. 

 

National Institute of Design Hostel Details:

Hostel are only provided for all the native UG students and girls who are doing PG in the campus. The NID Facilities charges put forward by the institution is given below.
