UGC NET Selection Process 2024: The UGC NET selection process 2024 varies for Lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship which includes qualifying for the UGC NET exam 2024. The UGC NET scheduled to be conducted on June 18, 2024 has been cancelled by NTA and the revised dates will be announced soon.
The UGC NET admit card is expected to be released soon on the official website. UGC NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency under the Ministry of Education which organises the exam every year for admission into JRF and lectureship.
UGC NET 2024 Selection Process
The UGC NET 2024 selection procedure involves a series of steps that involve registering, appearing and qualifying for the exam, etc. Listed below is the step-by-step UGC NET selection process for 2024:
- Step 1: Candidates must meet the UGC NET eligibility criteria that is the candidates must have secured atleast 55% of their postgraduate degree and a relaxation of 5% is given for reserved category candidates.
- Step 2: The application form must be filled out and submitted on the official website with all the required details. The last date to submit the UGC NET application form 2024 was May 19, 2024. Candidates must pay an application fee of INR 325 to INR 1150 based on their category.
- Step 3: Once the successful submission of application form, candidates will be issued with admit card for the UGC NET 2024 exam. The admit card is scheduled to be released on June 12, 2024.
- Step 4: Candidates must appear for the UGC NET exam and qualify with a required cut-off score based on their category
- Step 5: The UGC NET 2024 qualifying cut-off for the general category is 40% (120 marks) and for OBC/SC/ST/PwD candidates it is 35% (105 marks)
- Step 6: The qualified candidates will be selected based on the individual category selection criteria for the LS and JRF admission.

UGC NET Selection Criteria for Lectureship 2024
A category-wise reservation policy will be applied to the 6% qualified candidates in the UGC NET 2924 exam as per the reservation policy of the Government of India. The total number of qualified candidates in the exam equals 6% of the candidates who appeared in both papers.
The following formula will be calculated for each subject that the candidate has appeared for. The merit list and the UGC NET cut-off or qualifying marks for lectureship will be calculated based on the formula given below:
Number of Qualified Candidates in Political Science = The number of candidates who secure a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in both the papers (x) Total number of slots available under (÷) Total number of candidates overall subjects who secure at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers combined.

UGC NET Selection Criteria 2024 for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Only 1% of the candidates who have qualified for the examination will be eligible for the JRF certificate. Given below is the formula to calculate the JRF qualifying marks for general category for each subject:
Number. of Qualified Candidates = The number of candidates opted and qualified (x) Total number of slots available for JRF (÷) Total number of candidates over all subjects who opted and qualified for Assistant Professor.
