Cluster University was established in 2016. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It has five colleges under its administration, providing education to students in various departments. It is also accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Cluster University Srinagar admissions are offered to undergraduate programs based on student's performance in the Common Aptitude Test (CAT) and merit of the qualifying exam.

Cluster University Srinagar has carved a distinct identity by becoming an important institution of higher learning. Under the state's Rashtriya Ucchtar Shiksha Abhiyan, cluster universities are being constructed. With one college in each of Srinagar and Jammu serving as the main college, it intends to operate several new and extra courses in the existing city colleges.
