KUFOS 2023 exam notifications will be announced soon on the official website. The first of its kind, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, (KUFOS) was established in December 2010 by an act passed by Kerala Legislative. The institute is dedicated to providing education in the field of oceans and aquaculture given the fact that a large portion of Kerala greatly depends on seafood and its related practices.

About KUFOS CAT

Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) conducts an annual common admission test that offers admissions to their postgraduate and PhD programs at the institute. Special privileges are provided to children of fishermen, Kashmiri migrants, foreign nationals and state-sponsored candidates by government departments who shall receive a seat on a supernumerary basis.

There are several courses offered at KUFOS in ocean studies and study of fisheries like MBA, MSc, MFSc, LLM, MTech, PG Diploma, PhD, and other degree programs. Candidates seeking admission into any one of the stated programs at the KUFOS have to appear for the KUFOS CAT exam which is an entrance test for all these courses. KUFOS 2023 Eligibility Criteria

KUFOS CAT has a defined eligibility criteria, candidates should check their eligibility before applying to the exam.

KUFOS CAT Reservation Rules

  • The reservation norms prescribed by the Government of Kerala will be applicable for admission to all courses. A list of communities to be considered under the SC/ST category will be as per the list approved by the Govt. of Kerala. Percentages of reservation for eligible communities are furnished in Annexure III. For admission, SC/ST candidates will be given a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Reservation under the sports quota is available for the following programs:
    One seat in each of the P.G. programs where the sanctioned intake is 30 or more. The candidate applying for sports quota should forward a copy of the confirmation page of online registration along with attested photocopies of sports merit certificates (highest achievements in each event) to the Secretary, Kerala Sports Council, Thiruvananthapuram - 695001. The sports council will allot marks to the candidates according to their proficiency in sports. The maximum mark for proficiency is 500.
  • Representing the educational district / sports school / sports hostels in the Kerala State Schools Championship and securing at least the third place. The sports council shall forward the list along with a copy of the confirmation page of the students applied to KUFOS. The marks awarded to the candidates for proficiency in sports by the Kerala Sports Council will be added to the marks obtained by the respective candidates in the concerned Common Admission Test (provided they are ranked in the Common Admission Test). In the case of Management Programmes C-MAT(AICTE)/K-MAT/ CAT(IIM) Kerala score will be added to the marks awarded by the Kerala Sports Council.

The merit list for each course would be prepared based on inter se merit of Post Graduate, Ph.D., and PDF Programmes of the candidate computed as above. At the time of preparation of the rank list under sports quota, if there is any tie in the total marks, it will be resolved by the same principle of resolution of a tie for the preparation of CAT Rank list. The seats under sports quota will be filled up according to the rank from the merit list prepared for sports.

The sports quota rank list for will not be considered for filling up other categories of seats such as general merit for KUFOS. Candidates who claim reservation under Sports Quota should produce, at the time of counselling, a certificate of eligibility for selection under this quota issued by the Kerala Sports Council, as per the guidelines published by them. The achievements in two financial years (1st April to 31st March) previous to the year of selection shall alone be considered.
However, in the case of competitions that are not organized annually the immediately previous competitions shall be deemed as held in the previous two financial years for this selection.

  1. Children of Ex-Servicemen (ESM): One seat is reserved under this category for children of ex-servicemen in one PG program other than M.F.Sc, M.Tech. Every year the ESM seat is rotated among the courses in alphabetical order. Based on the rotation of seat, during the 2021-22 academic year, one supernumerary seat under ESM shall be provided to MSc. Disaster Management.
  2. Lakshadweep Quota (LQ): From 2018-19 onwards one supernumerary seat for two PG courses offered by KUFOS has been set aside for students hailing from Lakshadweep.The students should register with the Lakshadweep Administration and only those students recommended by the Lakshadweep Authority shall be entitled to the seats. Following the current rotation pattern, one seat each in MSc Earth Science and MSc Environmental Science has been reserved for LQ students during 2021-22.
  3. Physically Challenged (PHC): Certificate from the District Medical Board as stipulated under relevant rules of Government of Kerala in the matter to be produced in original. The certificate produced should be either in Malayalam or English and should specify the percentage of disability and should have been issued not earlier than 12 months before the date of counselling/GD/interview/admission whichever is earlier. The percentage of disability shall not be an index for gaining eligibility/admission. Admission shall be based on the merit of the candidates. If necessary, a medical board constituted by the university will examine individual cases before admission. The decision of the board will be final. 5% of seats of MSc courses are reserved for the physically challenged candidates with at least 40% disability. The seats allotted to physically challenged candidates are supernumerary.
  4. Son/Daughter of defence killed/disabled/missing in action category – From 2018-19, one supernumerary seat for one PG course offered by KUFOS set aside for Son/Daughter of defence killed/disabled/missing in the action category. Based on the rotation of seat, during 2021-22 academic year one supernumerary seat under son/daughter of defence killed/disabled/missing in action category shall be provided to MFSc Aquatic Animal Health Management.

KUFOS 2023 Application Form

KUFOS 2023 Application Form will be announced on the official website. From the academic year 2019-20 onward, the university has initiated an online application system for its Post Graduate, Diploma and PhD programs. Students are directed to visit the KUFOS website admission.kufos.ac.in and follow the online application instructions provided.

Candidates can register their names on the website, log in, submit the application form online, make payment of fees, check the status of the application, download hall tickets for the entrance examination and check the status of their admission from the online application portal. Candidates can submit online application through the online application portal following guidelines mentioned therein.

The candidate should take a print out of the application and produce the same along with proof of remittance of prescribed fee and copies of relevant certificates at the time of admission. Foreign/Person of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas Indian Citizen (OIC) and NRI candidates can also apply through the online mode. Foreign/NRI students need not write the entrance examination of KUFOS.

From the academic year 2021-22, the university has made available the facility of 'Pre-Admission Online Registration' to the aspiring students. Applicants seeking admission to the courses offered by the University who register through this portal shall be given timely updates on the issue of notification, the status of their application form; intimation on the date of examination, declaration of results, etc.

How to Fill KUFOS Application Form?

Follow the steps below to fill in the application form.

  • Step 1: Go to the official website of KUFOS at www.kufos.ac.in.
  • Step 2: Under the “Academics” tab, click on the “Admissions” option.
  • Step 3: It takes you to an external admissions portal with all the details and links for the new application.
  • Step 4: Create a new profile and fill in all the credentials with legit information.
  • Step 5: After providing all the personal and relevant information, you can apply for the desired courses next.
  • Step 6: If you're eligible for a reservation, then fill in the required information in the concerned section.
  • Step 7: Apply and make the payment before the due date.

KUFOS 2023 Application Fee

The candidates have to pay an amount against the application fee of KUFOS, the amount is based on the category of a candidate.

  • General Category: INR 1100 (Rupees One thousand and one hundred only) for one to five programs of KUFOS.
  • Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (native of Kerala only): INR 550 (Rupees five hundred and fifty only) for one to five programs of KUFOS.

Only those candidates who choose the option “NRI” under the head “Special Reservations” while applying on-line/offline has to remit the additional fee of INR 5500 over and above the normal fee of INR 1100 (INR 550 in the case of SC/ST Candidates).

For admission to any KUFOS CAT academic program offered by the University, students who are studying in the final semester/year of the qualifying examination can also apply. However, their admission will be provisional pending fulfilment of eligibility.

Students can apply for five programs at a time. If they wish to apply for more than five programs they have to remit additional application fees as per the table below.

The KUFOS application fee should be paid online through SBI Collect, the instructions for which are available on the KUFOS website. No other mode of payment will be accepted for KUFOS. The online payment for KUFOS should be made within the next three days of submission of application. Students need not send any hard copy of the KUFOS application to the University by post.

The candidate should take a print out of the application and produce the same along with proof of remittance of prescribed fee and copies of relevant documents at the time of admission. The application fee once remitted will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Candidates should be ready for the KUFOS admission process, once the exam is done. You will be required to submit the KUFOS admission fee once the seat is allotted.
