Marking Scheme
The marking scheme followed in the exam is another important attribute that the candidates must be aware of. The marking scheme implies the marking pattern of an examination. GATE follows a negative marking scheme for wrong attempts. The marking scheme followed in the GATE exam can be found in detail in the table below:
- For the 1-mark questions, a candidate is awarded +1 mark for every right answer.
- For the 2-marks questions, a candidate is awarded +2 marks for every right answer.
- For the 1-mark questions, 1/3 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.
- For the 2-marks questions, 2/3 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.
- Wrong answers in the Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT will incur no negative marking.
