After completing B.tech, students can pursue their MTech degree. It is a postgraduate or Master's degree that allows a technical graduate to further specialise in their respective stream of Engineering. Tamil Nadu is known to have some of the prestigious technical institutions, that include the IIT, NIT, Anna University and many others. The admissions to M.Tech are mostly done on the basis of TANCET exam - conducted annually by Anna University. Students are shortlisted on the basis of their undergraduate marks along with the TANCET scores and subsequent counselling procedures for admission.
Most of Tamil Nadu's economy is invested in sugar, textile, automobile, biotechnology & pharmaceuticals, healthcare, electricals & electronics, mineral industries, heavy machinery, leather etc. So the opportunities for an M.tech graduate to make a lucrative career is very high in Tamil Nadu. Many industrial plants and units have been set up in Tamil Nadu by companies like Titan, Tanishq, Ashok Leyland, Royal Enfield, TVS, Hero Powercorp etc. and this plays a major role in the state economy. The quality of Education in various colleges and universities in Tamil Nadu is high and many students from various parts of the world come here to pursue their higher Education.
