GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus 2025 has been released on the official website by IIT Roorkee. The Mechanical Engineering syllabus is divided into 4 sections: Engineering Mathematics, Applied Mechanics and Design, Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences, Materials, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineering. Further, these sections are classified into sub-sections, which have been discussed below.
GATE Mechanical Engineering is one of the twenty-five subjects in the GATE 2025 examination. Mechanical Engineering includes the application of various subjects of engineering, physics, material science principles, and mathematics to design, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus 2025
The GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus 2025 consists of four sections and the code for the subject is ME. The candidates must study all the topics from the undergraduate level. The GATE Syllabus for Mechanical Engineering are as follows:
- Section 1: Engineering Mathematics
- Section 2: Applied Mechanics and Design
- Section 3: Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Sciences
- Section 4: Materials, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineering
GATE 2025 Mechanical Engineering Syllabus for General Aptitude
Apart from the GATE Mechanical Engineering Syllabus it also includes General Aptitude which consists of Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability. The section of General aptitude remains the same for all of the GATE exams.
- Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, Instructions, verbal analogies, word groups, critical reasoning, verbal deduction.
- Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, Numerical reasoning, Numerical estimation, Data interpretation.

The candidates must prepare themselves thoroughly with all the topics mentioned in the GATE Mechanical Engineering syllabus in order to qualify for the exam. GATE Mechanical Engineering Exam Pattern
The exam pattern for GATE Mechanical Engineering is displayed in the following table. However, candidates must keep in mind there is negative marking for the GATE Mechanical Engineering exam for only MCQs. For 2 mark questions, each incorrect answer shall deduct ⅔ marks and for 1 mark questions, each incorrect answer shall deduct ⅓ marks.

GATE 2025 Eligibility
The GATE examination is conducted by any of the 7 IITs or Indian Institutes of Technology namely IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, and IISc or Indian Institute of Science Bangalore on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
All candidates who are aspiring to appear for GATE Mechanical Engineering must have the following:
- Must possess an undergraduate degree of B.Tech or B.E
- If the candidate does not have the degree, he/she must be pursuing the final or the last year of his B.E or B.Tech
- The candidates must not have any backlogs
- There is no age limit for any of the candidates as long as they have the degree.
- Candidates who are Indian and as well candidates who are from a different nationality are also eligible to apply.

GATE 2025 Cutoff
The cut-off marks for admissions into the various courses offered by different colleges may vary. Candidates who score higher marks than the GATE cut off are often recruited into high-paying jobs offered by many PSUs.
Moreover, suppose any candidate secures low marks. In that case, the qualifying GATE 2025 cut-off for Mechanical Engineering will not be considered for M.Tech admissions. The authorities will determine the qualifying cut-off of GATE 2025 by considering factors like the no. of candidates appearing in the exam, their performance, and last year's cut-off trends.
