Out of the total of 1650 medical colleges in India, those approved by the UGC (University Grants Commission) number 512. Of the remaining, 481 medical colleges in India are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI), and nearly 361 have NAAC accreditation.

Eligibility For Top Government Medical Colleges in India
Candidates are also expected to follow the eligibility criteria recommended by the Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India, Indian Nursing Council, Pharmacy Council of India, Indian Association of Physiotherapists, and respective association/council for other medical and health science courses. The following is detailed information about eligibility criteria in general for medical and health sciences admission into these top medical colleges of India 2024.
- A pass mark in the class 12 examination with science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Zoology / Botany.
- English should be one of the main subjects in the qualifying examination.
- The candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission.
