KEAM 2025 Rank Calculation

The KEAM Rank List is prepared based on candidates' board exam marks and scores achieved in the KEAM entrance examination. Both these scores hold an equal weightage of 50%.

KEAM pass mark 2025, and the scoring process in the KEAM exam varies for each paper. Candidates willing to pursue Engineering courses are required to attempt both papers.

After combining the individual marks of both papers (480+480), 960 is considered as the total mark for Paper 1 when finalising the rank of the candidates. Here's how the KEAM rank calculation process takes place:

Step 1: The raw marks are calculated, i.e., a total of 960 marks are considered for the calculation of the candidates' scores. Four marks are awarded for each correct answer, while one mark is deducted for incorrect responses.

Step 2: The authorities follow a normalisation process to ensure fairness in ranking the candidates. The normalisation process is used to standardize the difference in the difficulty level of papers across multiple shifts.

Step 3: Now, for engineering courses, ranks are calculated by assigning equal weightage to the normalised scores of both the papers. The total score is calculated by combining the total normalised score of both the papers.

Step 4: The preparation of the KEAM merit list takes place based on the total normalised score obtained in the exam. Candidates with higher relative scores get higher rankings. Further, tie-breaking rules are also applied to determine the final ranks.

Here's the KEAM normalisation formula:

Difference Between KEAM Qualifying Marks and KEAM Cutoff

Candidates must remember that the KEAM qualifying marks and KEAM cutoff are two different for admission to KEAM participating colleges 2025.

KEAM passing marks are the minimum qualifying marks required to pass the exam and proceed further in the admission process. These are preset or standardized marks that each candidate must achieve to clear the written test.

On the contrary, the KEAM cutoff is the admission cutoff set by each participating institution. This cutoff is based on seat availability, demand of the course, difficulty level of the paper, number of candidates qualifying the exam and previous year's cutoff trends.
