How to get admission in IITs? Cracking one of the toughest exams in India, JEE Main and JEE Advanced are the most sought-after path to getting admission to the IITs. However, that is not the only path. Since IITs have many departments and various courses to offer, the IIT admission process varies accordingly.
The IIT entrance exam dates for the upcoming examination will be announced by the National Testing Agency. The admission process includes multiple steps. The first and most crucial step towards admission is checking the Indian Institute of Technology entrance exam eligibility.
How to Get Admission in IITs?
Getting into any of the streams, branches, or departments at IIT is tough. It is so because of the difficult level of the question paper, high cut off marks in the entrance exams, and a large number of students competing for very limited seats.
While students need to work rigorously to qualify for the exam and get admission, in the end, the results are valuable. Anyone graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology holds a deep knowledge of their concerned subjects. This is also aided by the fact that companies offer high salaries to graduates while hiring.
The following instructions show the IIT admission through JEE:
Step 1: IIT Application Form Submission
After ensuring that the candidates have satisfied all the eligibility criteria, they need to register and submit the application form. Aspirants have to create an account on the official website and submit the necessary personal and educational details.
Students must submit correct information and documents to avoid getting rejected at a later stage. They also need to pay the requisite registration fee. Once the JEE Main application form 2024 has been submitted, the exam authorities will check and verify the same. Only candidates who furnish correct and complete details will be further allowed to appear for the examination.
Step 2: IIT Admit Card Release
Candidates who complete the application process will be issued the JEE Main admit card 2024. Once issued, students will be able to download it using their login credentials. They must check every detail mentioned on the admit card carefully.
The admit card should be retained till the end of the admission process. The admit cards for JEE Main and JEE Advanced will be issued separately. The JEE Main exam centre 2024 and JEE advanced exam centre 2024 will be mentioned on the hall ticket.
Step 3: IIT Entrance Exam Dates
On the designated day of the exam dates, canddiates must reach the exam venue on time. They must carry all the necessary documents with them. Candidates must abide by the JEE Main exam day guidelines 2024. Furthermore, candidates must also follow the JEE Main dress code 2024.
Step 4: IIT Result Declaration
Following the successful completion of the examinations, the JEE Main result 2024 will be declared. Candidates who qualify for the JEE Main cut off 2024 will be allowed to sit for the JEE Advanced exam.
Once the JEE Advanced exam is over, the final JEE Advanced merit list 2024 will be announced. Based on the cut off and merit list the counselling will be conducted.
Step 5: IIT Counselling Process
Once the JEE Advanced cut off 2024 and merit list is announce, candidates must register for the counselling process. The JEE Advanced counselling 2024 process will be conducted per the merit list. While registering they can choose their choice of college and branches.

IIT Admission Through Quota
There is no NRI quota under the JEE Main exam. However, students can register under the foreign nationals or OCI/PIO category. There are no separate reservations provided to them. Similarly, there is no IIT admission through sports quota as well. While many premiere institutions follow it across the country, the Indian Institute of Technology has refrained from following it. Candidates must also note that if they want to get admission to B.Tech programs, then they must take the JEE exam. There is no IIT admission without JEE.
