WBJEE Merit List 2025: Date, GMR, Tie Breaking Policy

WBJEE merit list 2025 will be released once the WBJEE result 2025 is declared on June 2025  on the official portal at wbjeeb.nic.in. Candidates can access the WBJEE merit list using their application number and password. 

WBJEEB prepares the merit list based on the candidates' marks in papers I and II. If two or more candidates have scored the same marks, then the tie-break policy will be applied to declare the merit list. 

The merit list of WBJEE 2025 includes the candidate's name, overall category-wise rank, and total marks secured. Candidates whose names are mentioned in the WBJEE merit list are invited to participate in the WBJEE counselling 2025 for admission to various Engineering colleges of West Bengal.

How is the WBJEE 2025 Merit List prepared?

WBJEEB prepares WBJEE merit list 2025. Candidates's marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, category-wise marks and overall marks are considered while preparing the WBJEE merit list. The board follows a standard set of guidelines while preparing the merit list. Students can go through the guidelines listed below for their reference. 

  • WBJEEB considers marks secured in individual subjects.
  • A separate WBJEE 2025 merit list is prepared based on category. 
  • In case any two or more candidates have secured the same rank, a tie-break policy will be implied. 
  • For JEE Main students, 10% of seats are reserved.

Ans. Since the test takers are more than one lakh, 25,000 can be considered as a good rank in WBJEE 2025.

What is the Tie Breaking Policy in WBJEE Merit List 2025?

If two or more students secure the same marks, then the WBJEEB will follow the tie-break policy.  The WBJEE 2025 Tie Breaking Rules are given below for students' reference. 

Tie-Breaking Rule for PMR Merit Rank

The PMR Merit Rank rules for tie-breaking are listed below for the candidate's reference.

  • Students must have fewer negative marks in Math, Physics and Chemistry taken together.
  • Candidates must have scored Less negative marks in Math, Physics and Chemistry taken together.
  • The top preference will be given to the students obtaining less negative scores in Physics and Chemistry.
  • In case of continuation of the tie, those achieving more positive scores in Chemistry shall get priority in the rank list.
  • Individuals with fewer negative scores in Chemistry will get a better rank if the tie persists after implementing the above rules.
  • Those securing more positive scores for 2 mark Chemistry questions shall get a higher rank if the tie does not resolve.
  • Candidates obtaining less negative scores for 2 mark Chemistry questions will get preference if the tie continues.
  • In case the tie exists, students receiving more positive scores for 2-mark Physics questions shall be preferred in the rank list.
  • Individuals with fewer negative scores for 2-mark Physics questions will receive a better rank if the tie carries forward.
  • Finally, if the tie is not resolved after implementing the rules stated above, the older student (age-wise) will achieve a higher rank.

Tie-Breaking Rule for General Merit Rank

The General Merit Rank rules for Tie Breaking are listed below for the candidate's reference.

  • Students achieving the least negative scores in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry will get first preference in the rank list.
  • In case the tie continues after applying the rule given above, the individual obtaining more positive scores in Mathematics & Physics will be given priority.
  • If the tie is not resolved, those who secure more positive scores in Mathematics and Chemistry shall be preferred.
  • The next rule to break the tie if it persists is to give preference to the students securing fewer negative scores in Maths and Physics.
  • Candidates with less negative scores in Maths and Chemistry will be preferred in the rank list to further break the tie.
  • If the tie carries forward even after implementing the above-mentioned rules, individuals achieving more positive scores for 2-mark Maths questions shall get preference.
  • Students receiving more positive scores for 2-mark Physics questions shall get priority in case the tie does not break after the policies given above.
  • Individuals with more positive scores for 2 mark Chemistry questions will be given preference if the tie still does not resolve.
  • In case the tie still exists, those who get fewer negative scores for 2-mark Mathematics questions will get a better rank.
  • Candidates attaining less negative scores for 2-mark Physics questions shall get preference if the tie exists.
  • Lastly, if the tie persists even after applying all the criteria, the older candidate will achieve a higher rank as per the WBJEE ranking system (GMR)

Ans. The highest marks can be between 95 - 105 and the highest rank could be 900- 1500.

WBJEE Reservation Criteria 2025

The WBJEE merit list 2025 is prepared based on reservation categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PWD. The separate list is prepared category-wise. Students must provide the Domicile certificate of West Bengal and caste certificate during the admission process.
