Maharashtra SSC Grading System: The Maharashtra Board follows a 5-point grading scale ranging from A+ to D. The Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate (SSC) grading system has been developed by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. 

Maharashtra SSC exams are ongoing from February 17 to March 21, 2025. Maharashtra SSC passing grade is C and students getting D grades will have to re-appear for the examination for specific subjects. This article covers the detailed Maharashtra SSC grading system 2025.

Maharashtra SSC Grading system contains a total of 5 grades from A+ to D, where A+ is the highest indicating distinction division and D refers to failure. This grading system is based on the overall percentage of theory and practical combined obtained by students for all subjects aggregate.

There are 5 grade points in the Maharashtra SSC grading system, which are numbers ranging from 1 to 5 indicating scores and grades. Students must get a grade point of 4 to be considered eligible for transferring into Maharashtra Class 11th.

How to Calculate Percentage from Maharashtra SSC Grades?

The steps to calculate percentage from Maharashtra SSC Grades are given below along with detailed instructions:

Step 1: Total up each subject's scores. For instance: Science (score for theory and practice) + Social Science (score for theory and practice) + Math (score for theory and practice), etc.

Step 2: Divide the total score by the sum of the scores for each subject multiplied by 100%. For instance, there are six subjects totaling 100 marks each. Divide the aggregate subject scores by 600 multiplied by 100%.

Step 3: The student's achievement is indicated by the percentage after dividing and multiplying the score by 100%.

Step 4: The Maharashtra SSC  grade chart given above could be used to identify grade based on the percentage received after following these steps. For example, a student scoring 65% will fall under the B grade and 3 grade points.

Maharashtra SSC Grading System: Important Pointers

There are a few key points to be remembered about the Maharashtra secondary school certificate grading system as mentioned below:

  • Maharashtra SSC follows a condonation policy, giving grace marks to students based on different subjects. 
  • Grade D is considered a fail in Maharashtra SSC exam, and students will have to repeat the academic session if they have below passing marks in more than 2 subjects. 
  • The Maharashtra SSC Grading system is calculated after the condonation policy marks provided to students. 
  • While most of the subjects have an overall score of 100, some subjects like Mathematics and Science contain 150 marks

Maharashtra SSC Marking Scheme 

Maharashtra SSC Marking scheme is followed based on the division of scores of subjects for theory and practical. Non-practical subjects with 100 marks get divided 80 for theory and 20 for practicals. 

  • While there are practical subjects which have 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practicals. Maharashtra SSC exam contains both objective and subjective questions with no negative marking for any question. 
  • Students also have internal assessment marks like experiment conduction, practical files completion and knowledge acquisition ability, which get added in the practical scores. 
  • Students require passing marks in both theory and practical to qualify as a pass in the Maharashtra Senior School certificate examinations.

Maharashtra SSC Passing Marks

The passing marks for Maharashtra SSC examinations are 35% aggregate of all subjects. For subjects like mathematics and science, the passing score is 52 out of 150 marks. Students require 27 scores out of 80 in theory and 7 marks out of 20 in practical. 

  • Maharashtra SSC passing grade is C with a grade point 2. Students achieving more than 75% in Maharashtra SSC get awarded distinction grade, below 75% to 60% falls under first division, 45% to 59% is identified as second division, 35% to 44% is the passing percentage and below 35% is fail. 
  • If a student can get 35% aggregate but has below passing marks in any subject, then the student will have to fill in the compartment exam application for that specific subject. Maharashtra SSC Compartment passing marks are also 35% in all subjects.
