Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education uses a 9-point scale grading system to evaluate students’ overall performance in MP Board 12th examination and the grades are awarded from A+ to E. A+ is the highest grade given to students on scoring marks between 90-100. E is the lowest grade given for scoring less than 20. To pass the exam, scoring 33 marks in each subject or a grade ‘D’ is mandatory.

How to Calculate Percentage for MP Board Class 12?

Let’s understand how to calculate CGPA for MP Board 12th and the formula required to convert the percentage to CGPA:

  • Add the grade points scored in the best of 5 subjects.
  • Divide the sum by 5 (number of subjects).

CGPA: Grade Points in 5 Subjects/Number of 5 Subjects

Let’s say your grade points in 5 subjects are 8, 7,9, 6, and 5. Using the formula the CGPA would be

  • Adding the grade points we get- 8+7+9+6+5=35
  • Dividing the sum by the number of subjects- 35/5=7
  • Therefore, the CGPA is 7

To calculate percentage for MPBSE class 12 use the following formula:

Percentage= Sum of marks /Total marks X 100 

To convert a CGPA into a percentage, use the given method:

CGPA X 9.5

For example, if CGPA is 7 multiply it by 9.5

Thus, your percentage is 66.5%

MPBSE Class 12 Marking Scheme 2025

Students can refer to MPBSE class 12 marks distribution mentioned below:

  • The question paper will cover objective, subjective and analytical questions.
  • MCQs will be of 30 marks, 3-5 subjective questions and each will be of 3 marks. There will be 6 analytical questions and each carries 4 marks.
  • Subjects without practicals will be held for 80 marks and 20 marks for projects, While practical-based subjects will have theory papers of 70 marks and practical 30 marks.

MPBSE Class 12th Passing Marks for PCM/ PCB

Students of Class 12th appearing for MPBSE Examinations need to score a minimum of 24 marks in PCM stream subjects apart from practicals. There are 3 subjects in each stream and each exam is for 100 marks.  The passing marks out of 500 for five subjects is 120, adding theory as well as practicals. There are different subjects options offered in Arts for MPBSE Class 12th students and the passing marks depends on whether the subject is practical or non practical. For non-practical subjects the theory marks is out of 80 and 20 for practicals.

MPBSE Class 12th Passing Marks for Practicals

MPBSE Class 12th passing marks for practicals differ based on practical and non-practical subjects. For practical subjects the passing marks out of 30 is 10 and for non-practical it is 6 out of 20. 

Practical MPBSE Class 12th contains viva marks and practical conduction or practical file completion marks. The practical marks are added in the overall passing marks which is 30% as per MPBSE Class 12th guidelines. The following table dictates the practical marks subject-wise:

MPBSE Class 12th Grading System

MPBSE Class 12th grading system is based on 9 point grades ranging from A+ to E. Divisions are also awarded based on the student’s overall percentage. Students scoring 75+ marks are held distinction, 60% or more weightage qualifies for first division, 45% or below 60% holds second division and 35% scores and below 45% are considered holding third division. 

While the exams have been divided including both subjective and objective questions. Students unable to score passing marks in almost all subjects get F grade which indicates a weak understanding of subject requirements by students. 

In such cases students will have to repeat Class 12th as per Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary education. The table presented below explain the 9 point grading system of MPBSE Class 12th:

Tips to Score above MPBSE Class 12th Passing Marks

Students aspiring to score distinction divisions and go for further scholarships should aim at scoring above 75% in MPBSE Class 12th. There are several tips and study strategies which might help students to score above MPBSE Class 12th passing marks. 

These tips could be applied to all streams and different subjects which students face difficulty in. Following are some proven strategies for scoring higher in MPBSE Class 12th:

  • Understanding Format of Exam: Students must be well aware about the structure and format of MPBSE Class 12th exam and all the different question types. This will help to focus on main concepts of subjects rather than reading the whole book and trying to memorize everything.
