The NBSE HSLC passing marks for each subject are 33%. This criterion of 33% is applicable individually for the theory and the practical portions. Hence, to pass a subject, one must get at least 33% in the practical paper and 33% in the theory paper. 

The ratio of the theory and the practical component in the NBSE class 10th is 80:20. Thus, to pass the theory paper, a student must get at least 26 marks out of 80. To pass the practical paper, a student needs to score a minimum of 7 marks out of 20. Those who fail to get the minimum score will be required to appear in the supplementary/compartment exam.

NBSE HSLC Passing Marks: Grading System 

The NBSE HSLC passing marks grading system works on the 9-scale criteria. The highest grade score is A1 and it shows that a student has performed outstandingly (marks range of 91 to 100). The lowest grades are E1 and E2, and they mean a student has failed (marks range from 21 to 32 and marks of 20). To pass a subject, a student must get at least 33 marks out of 100. The minimum grade required to pass the NBSE class 10th exam is D (marks range of 33 to 40).

What Will Happen If a Student doesn’t get NBSE HSLC Passing Marks?

If a student is unable to score NBSE HSLC passing marks, which is 33% in a subject, then he/she will be considered a failure in that respective subject. Hence, in this case, one will have to appear for the supplementary/compartment exam. The board will start accepting the application forms and fees for the compartment exams in May 2025 (tentative). Hence, students must regularly keep an eye on the official website of the Nagaland Board of School Education, nbsenl.edu.in. 

The NBSE HSLC supplementary exams will be held in June 2025 (tentative) and the official dates will be declared on the NBSE’s website. The results for the NBSE class 10th supplementary exams results are scheduled to be declared in July 2025 (tentative)
