HBSE 12th Grading System: Check Marking Scheme, Passing Marks

HBSE 12th grading system is based on 9-point grading points which consists of grades ranging from A+ to E. Haryana Board of School Education has a separate grading system for theory exams and internal assessment. For internal assessment, HBSE 12th follows a 5-point grading system from A+ to D. 

The grades scored by the candidates will be reflected in the HBSE 12th result. HBSE Class 12th students getting above 90% marks in theory and practicals aggregate get first division. 

The examination for Haryana State Board Class 12th will be conducted in February 2025 and the result will be declared for the academic session 2024-2025 in April 2025 on its official website. 

HBSE Class 12th Grading System 

The HBSE Class 12th grading system is based on the overall percentage of marks scored by students. There are a total of 9 grades scaling from A+ to E, where A+ is the highest grade and E grade represents failure in HBSE Class 12th examinations. Grade Points for HBSE Class 12th Grading System 

HBSE Class 12th grading system has 9 grade points which means there are numbers from 1 to 9, each number representing different grades and marks range. Students require a minimum of 3-grade points to be considered to pass in HBSE Class 12th examinations. The following table consists of Grade points for the HBSE Class 12th grading system:

HBSE Class 12th Grading System Internal Assessment

Haryana Board of School Education follows a different grading system for internal assessments which is a 5-point grading system. This consists of 5 grades from A+ to D where each grade represents a different marks range. 

Internal assessment includes the involvement of students, notebooks or file completion, experiments specific to the subject, behaviour of students and many more. The following table gives details about the HBSE Class 12th Grading system for internal assessment:

How to Calculate Percentage from HBSE Class 12th Grades?

Students can easily calculate percentages from HBSE Class 12th grades by below given instructions and steps below:

Step 1: Sum up the scores of all the subjects including both practical marks and theory marks. For example: Accountancy (theory+practical scores) + English (theory+practical marks) + Business studies (theory+practical scores) etc.

Step 2: After adding all scores now divide this with the overall score multiplied by hundred percent. For example: there are five subjects each of 100 marks so divide the added-up figure by 500 multiplied by 100%. 

Step 3: After dividing and multiplying by 100% whatever the score comes is the aggregate percentage of all subjects. 

Step 4: Now use the above table of the HBSE Class 12th grading system and match the obtained percentage with the appropriate grade and grade point. For example, if a student got 80% then as per the above grading table the grade will be A and the grade point as 8. 

In case a student has a grade or grade point the above-mentioned steps will be used to find the percentage. 

HBSE Class 12th Grading System: Important Pointers

HBSE Class 12th grading system has several key points to remember which are mentioned below:

  • As per the HBSE Class 12th grading system, the minimum grade required to pass the examination is D+. 
  • Students will be given 1% grace marks to pass if the minimum score required meets the grace marks criteria. 
  • The grading system of HBSE Class 12th is different for both theoretical examinations and internal assessments or practicals. 
  • The grades will be mentioned in the scorecard of HBSE Class 12th. 
  • In the case of 6 subjects, the maximum marks of five subjects will be taken into consideration for percentage calculation and grading system. 

HBSE Class 12th Marking Scheme 

HBSE Class 12th marking scheme refers to the checking criteria and marks distribution for different subjects. Non-practical examinations are divided into 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for practicals. There are several practical exams like physics and chemistry which have 60 marks for theory exams and 40 marks for internal assessment and practicals. 

There is no negative marking for any question or subject. The HBSE Class 12th exam paper consists of both objective and subjective questions testing several skills of students. The assessment marks are calculated for external assessment and internal assessment. 

External assessment includes viva, practical files and experiments. Internal assessment is based on classroom activities and involvement of students, periodic exam marks and many more. 

HBSE Class 12th Passing Marks

HBSE Class 12th passing marks is 33% in all subjects for both theory and practicals. Non-practical examinations of 80 marks of theory require 26 marks to pass in HBSE Class 12th. 

However, for practical subjects like physics and chemistry out of 60, 19 marks are required to be considered pass. HBSE Class 12th passing marks out of 20 for practicals is 6. Students require a minimum of a D+ grade and 3 grade points to clear HBSE Class 12th. 

If a student can get aggregate marks in subjects but fails to get passing marks in any subject then the student will have to appear for the compartment exam for that particular subject. 1% grace marks could be provided if required to pass the examination of the Haryana Board of School Education class 12th.
