ISC Class 12 History Syllabus: Chapter wise Topics

The theory and the project consist of 100 marks. Part 1 and 2 of the ISC paper combines short and long-answer questions from Indian and World history. The vital chapter-wise topics from ISC history syllabus class 12 are detailed below.

Part II - PROJECT WORK

The students will be assigned one of the following projects.

  • Case study
  • Local history
  • Book review/ film review/ posters/ newspapers/ advertisements/ cartoons and art
  • Interview/oral evidence
  • Field visit/ investigation

Note: Students must work on the project organically and aim to produce original, creative and insightful perspectives on different aspects of the topic. The format for the written outcome of the project must be structured in the following way.

  • The research question
  • Abstract: Reason for choosing the topic, Methods and material to be used in the investigation, Hypothesis: the conclusion the student is hoping to draw.
  • Main essay: Background and context – to be discussed very briefly, Explanation of the theme and specific issue of the research question in the context of the background given above, Interpretation, Analysis and Critical Evaluation of a range of evidence: the research material gathered by the student, Conclusion - whether hypothesis stands or not

  • Appendix

ISC Class 12 History Exam Pattern

The ISC History paper is divided into theory and project. The theory part of the paper contains 80 marks, and the rest 20 is given to the project. The theory paper is further segregated into two parts.

Part I has 20 marks consisting of compulsory short answer questions, and Part II includes 60  marks; students must answer five questions for 12 marks each.
